Medical marijuana dispensary to open here – Silver City Daily Press and Independent

Grant County will get its first medical cannabis dispensary on Friday with the grand opening of Ultra Health, at 2320 U.S. 180 E., in the Albertsons shopping plaza.

The Silver City location will be the ninth for the company in New Mexico, said Marissa Novel, the company’s communications manager. They currently have three dispensaries in Albuquerque, one, along with their lab, in Bernalillo, and dispensaries in Santa Fe, Clovis, Hobbs and — their newest location — Alamogordo, which just opened three weeks ago.

“We are extremely excited to be opening our ninth location in Silver City, as we have been awaiting this location for some time now,” said Novel. “We had originally submitted an application to the Department of Health in May 2016.”

The inspection is scheduled for today and if all goes well, the dispensary will open for business at 10 a.m. Friday.

Leonard Salgado, vice president of business and development, recently spoke at a Silver City Rotary meeting.

“We are getting great feedback from patients,” Salgado said. “It’s an exciting time.”

“Grant County has about 500 medical cannabis patients without a dispensary,” Novel told the Daily Press.

Those patients are currently traveling to dispensaries in Las Cruces or elsewhere.

“We are not only creating jobs, but gross receipts tax,” Salgado said.

As far as jobs go, the dispensary hired seven employees, five full time and two part time, but Silver City Town Manager Alex Brown said he doesn’t expect to see a huge increase in gross receipts tax.
