Meritorious schools' retest: Only 57% students get through – Hindustan Times

A fresh test for the entrance in meritorious schools has also failed to fill the vacant seats, with only 57.3 % candidates passing the exams.

A total of 2,034 students had applied for the retest from across the state, out of which 1,848 appeared and only 1,059 students managed to clear the test.

The result of the retest, which was declared on Saturday, also failed to save the image of the education department.

The result has again raised a question mark on the results of Class-10 examination, declared by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

The students who had got more than 80% marks in Class10 examination but had failed in clearing the entrance test for meritorious schools were called for the retest.

Earlier on July 5, the result of the first entrance test was declared wherein only 50.3% students had managed to clear the test, prompting the department to conduct a retest to fill more than 1,500 vacant seats.

Education department officials said this was an embarrassment for the department as the question arose how the students got 80% marks in Class-10.

“The department should take notice of the results and call principals and district education officers where the students have not cleared the test,” an official said, on the condition of anonymity.
