John Morgan and the Amendment 2 campaign United For Care kicked off a medical marijuana bus tour of Florida Tuesday with a student rally at the University of Central Florida and a townhall-style forum in Winter Park.
Both featured Morgan’s bother Tim Morgan, whom has the trial attorney calls his inspiration and and has used as his leading example to talk about benefits of medical marijuana.
They and other advocates spoke to almost 100 people at the Winter Park Civic Center Monday evening. There did not appear to be any opponents. All the applause lines got nothing but applause.
Tim Morgan, 56, told his story. He broke his back as a lifeguard jumping into a pool to save a girl in 1977 and broke his neck, causing paralysis below the waist and chronic pain. Later, the still-young Tim Morgan found that marijuana was the only thing that eased his pain. Later in life he and John and their other brother watched their father dying of cancer, and Tim suggested he use marijuana to ease his pain. Later, Tim got cancer, and found it worked for him.
“Three times in my life. it’s come through for me. I need it. I want it. I will always use it,” Tim Morgan said.
The tour will hit Tampa, Palm Beach and Miami in coming days.
Morgan, who said he considers himself a fairly liberal Democrat, also used the forum to suggest people vote for Democrats, including his law partner, Charlie Crist, who is running for governor. Morgan did not name Crist or anyone else specifically, but urged the crowd to consider which candidates support medical marijuana, and which do not. and vote accordingly.
