Albuquerque cannabis dispensary broken into ahead of grand opening – KOB

Their new dispensary in Albuquerque called Xtracts is now open on Central at Sunset.

It’ll serve medical cannabis patients, but will also sell marijuana for recreational use when legal sales begin statewide Friday.

“It’s just a fact that we have to deal with and cannabis locations need to be very secure. Ours was very secure. We just had a very unfortunate incident where somebody took an enormous amount of effort and time and broke through walls from a business right next to ours,” said White.

The thief didn’t get away with anything but did a lot of damage to the business.

“There’s never any actual product left out at night it’s all locked away in safes and vaults that cannot be accessed. All they did is a lot of damage,” said White.

Xtracts will be Friday when recreational marijuana sales start in New Mexico.

White has some advice for other dispensary owners who are just getting into the business for the first time.

“At night it’s best to really have a good protocol,” he said. “Have a good monitoring service. Know where your possible weak areas are, whether it’s above through sky lights, whether it’s through a neighboring business,

Marijuana bill could protect cash-reliant dispensaries – NewsNation Now

(NewsNation) — The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to pass a bill Friday that would decriminalize marijuana on a federal level. However, the legislation is expected to face an uphill battle in the Senate where it would need 60 votes to pass.

The legislation follows Gallup polling that shows nearly 70% of Americans support legalizing marijuana.

So far, 18 states and Washington, D.C., have legalized recreational marijuana. And significantly more, 37 in total, have legalized the medical use of marijuana.

The bill comes amid a wave of break-ins at marijuana businesses, which are often targeted because they rely on cash. In part, that’s because major banks are less willing to finance operations, given that marijuana is still illegal at the federal level.

In Oakland last November, a mob of about a dozen suspects broke in and looted a cannabis dispensary.

ALPENA – The first marijuana dispensary in Alpena is set to open Friday, four years after voters in Michigan voted to legalize the use and sale of the drug.

Neighborhood Provisions, located on Washington Avenue, celebrated the shop’s imminent opening this afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Alpena Area Chamber of Commerce. After the ribbon was cut, select members of the public were given a tour of the new business and educated on the types of hemp products in stock and how the staff will work with customers to find the right item for them.

Medical marijuana will be available for purchase Friday to people who have a medical marijuana card, but adult-use marijuana won’t begin being sold until about April 8.

Co-owner Kevin Currier said after seeing the turnout of supporters in the store that all of the hard work, time, and investment into the store has been worthwhile.
