State’s first woman-owned, adult-use cannabis dispensary opening … – QNS

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced that New York state’s first woman-owned conditional adult-use retail cannabis dispensary will open in Queens on Thursday.

The cannabis shop Good Grades, located at 162-03 Jamaica Ave. in Jamaica, is scheduled to open at 2 p.m. on March 30. In addition to being the first woman-owned dispensary in the state, it will be the first legal adult-use retail cannabis dispensary in Queens.

Good Grades is operated by entrepreneur Extasy James and her cousin, Michael James, Jr.

James Jr. is an attorney who focuses on serving clients with a core value of advocating for the minority business community.

“With the opening of Good Grades in Queens, we’re continuing to build on our progress to create a safe, regulated cannabis industry in New York,” Hochul said. “New York is working to support entrepreneurs and ensure that consumers can purchase safe, legal products while supporting their communities.”

The New York State Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund supported the opening of this woman-owned business. As with many other dispensaries supported by the fund, licensees like Good Grades will be provided the opportunity to open on a short-term basis to fast-track sales, provide training opportunities for employees and start generating capital

First Woman-Owned Cannabis Dispensary In New York To Open In Queens – Patch

QUEENS — New York’s first woman-owned cannabis retail dispensary is slated to open this week in Jamaica, Gov. Kathy Hochul said Monday.

Good Grades will open for business on Thursday at 162-03 Jamaica Avenue at 2 p.m., gaining monetary support from a state fund that helps set foot into the adult-use cannabis industry.

“We are incredibly passionate about providing greater access to cannabis and breaking down the barriers that prevent so many people, especially those from marginalized communities, from experiencing the benefits of this amazing plant,” said Good Grades owner, Extasy James, who was once criminalized by cannabis prohibition.

Good Grades will be the first legal retail dispensary in Queens.

The state’s Social Equity Cannabis Investment Fund helps people with CAURD licenses, which allow dispensaries to open for legal adult-use cannabis sales in New York state, meet the cost of opening their business.

The fund is available to those who had a cannabis conviction themselves or a close family member of someone who does, owns, or has owned a business that had a net profit for at least two years.

Missoula County to consider zoning rural marijuana stores, cultivators – KPAX News

MISSOULA – Regulations around the density and energy use of the marijuana industry in Missoula’s urban areas have been in place now for a year, but similar businesses in the county’s rural reaches have had no such rules.

But that could soon change as Missoula County considers new zoning that would place certain rules on rural marijuana dispensaries and cultivators, including the distance between each storefront and the amount of energy used.

Like the urban area, the changes would require a distance of 500 feet between marijuana dispensaries. Such rules are intended to keep dispensaries from over-saturating rural commercial districts in Seeley Lake, Lolo and Bonner.

“The goal of that is to create and maintain diversity in commercial areas,” said Karen Hughes, director of county planning. “We already have these zoning regulations in the zoning areas. This would apply countywide, including unzoned areas.”

The county will also consider the amount of energy marijuana cultivators use. Such operations consume massive amounts of energy, far outpacing the energy consumed in other sectors including fast food restaurants, paper manufacturing and metals.

As proposed, the ordinance would require cannabis cultivators to use grow lights selected from the Design Lights Consortium Qualified Product List or shift to 100% clean

Second Mahoning County Medical Marijuana Dispensary to Open – businessjournaldaily.com

STRUTHERS, Ohio – Mahoning County’s second medical marijuana dispensary is set to open next month, as patient demand continues to stay strong throughout the area, one of the owners said Monday.

Green Leaf Therapy will host an open house April 5 at its offices at 93 S. Bridge St., said co-owner Vicki Groner. Groner owns the dispensary with her son, Cory Groner, and plans to officially open for business April 10, she said.

“My son, Cory, actually brought it to us and said it was a great business opportunity,” Groner said. “There aren’t enough dispensaries, and they need relief.”

Renovations are underway at the Bridge Street location, and Groner projects business is likely to be strong. “We have really good projections. We think we’ll do very well.”

Groner noted that the Struthers location is proximate to Campbell, Youngstown, Lowellville and Poland, so it has the potential to draw from all of these areas plus other communities within a 10-mile radius.

Green Leaf would become the second licensed operating dispensary in Mahoning County and the fourth dispensary between Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, according to records from the state of Ohio’s Medical Marijuana Control Program’s website.

12 people wanted for 20+ Michigan marijuana dispensary break-ins after stolen safe thrown off roof – WDIV ClickOnDetroit

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. – Warrants have been issued for 12 people involved in a string of more than 20 marijuana dispensary break-ins across Michigan after a stolen safe was thrown from the roof of a house.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said officials have been investigating a string of break-ins at marijuana dispensaries across the state in May 2022.

Several people involved in those break-ins were identified in Calhoun County when they tried to break a safe by throwing it off the rooftop of a house, according to authorities. That safe had been stolen from one of the dispensaries, officials said.

The investigation into that stolen safe revealed that 20 other dispensaries had been targeted during the same time period.

“This is an unfortunate example of why Congress must pass the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act,” Nessel said. “Without access to traditional banking, the cannabis industry is left as a ripe target for criminals. Any legal business should have fair access to our banking institutions for the security of their own business and employees, as well as public safety.”

Warrants have been issued for 12 people in connection with the break-ins. Most of those people are being charged with safe breaking, criminal enterprise, and
