New medical marijuana dispensary opens in Stockbridge – 11Alive.com WXIA

The new location is the first to service the southern section of metro Atlanta.

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. — The third Botanical Sciences Medical Marijuana Dispensary opened its doors Tuesday in Stockbridge, coming just five months after the state approved the in-store sale of medical cannabis to patients.

The new location is the first to service the southern section of metro Atlanta and has those in need of the medication celebrating. Now, wherever you are, you are less than 30 minutes from a dispensary.

One such patient is Cheryl Faulkner, who has stage four liver cancer.

“All of my doctors had given me all this medicine; I had 46 different medicines,” she explained.

However, it was the eventual shift to cannabis, which she credits with changing her life.

“To this day, as I stand here in front of you, I don’t take options as I’m battling cancer. I choose medical cannabis every single time. I’m functional. I can live where opioids were causing me to be on the couch the whole time,” she explained.

Yet, despite the benefits of medical cannabis to people like Faulkner, many have been slow

Pot shop company files suit to blunt planned dispensary at former Rainforest Cafe, limit proximity of minority-owned stores – Chicago Sun-Times

A politically connected firm pushing to open dozens of pot shops in Illinois is suing to prevent a dispensary from opening in the former River North Rainforest Cafe — and to restrict how close minority-owned cannabis shops can be to one another.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Cook County by GRI Holdings, a clouted firm with deep ties to state government, claims that the proposed Consume Cannabis dispensary at 605 N. Clark St. violates state law by opening within 1,500 feet of its Green Rose Dispensary at 612 N. Wells St.

Both pot businesses are owned by social equity applicants, and therefore not restricted by a state law preventing pot shops from opening within 1,500 feet of an existing weed shop.

The idea behind the exception was to give minority-owned pot businesses a leg up on big weed shops that claimed some of the best territory years before the social equity licenses were issued.

But the suit claims that the exception — that social equity pot shops can open right next to each other — is a misinterpretation of the state law by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which issues state cannabis licenses and is named as a defendant.

That misinterpretation creates a

High Grades: Meet Brooklyns First Legal Recreational Dispensary – Patch

FLATBUSH, NY — Good Grades is already at the head of its class.

The shop was New York’s first woman-owned cannabis retail dispensary and is now the first store to legally sell recreational cannabis in Queens and Kings County.

And in their entrepreneurial-minded family, co-owners and cousins Michael and Extasy James are hoping to set a precedent by creating a legacy family business.

“Business requires you to grow… It’s been great learning to work off of each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” Michael James said. “You want to like who you work with.”

After a successful opening in Queens, Good Grades opened a pop-up at a former T-Mobile store on Flatbush Avenue near Beverly Road in October. The pop-up will remain open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Sunday until the end of the year.

Obviously, the store is not for college students under 21 — but the name is a riff on the immersive learning environment on a college campus, Michael James said.

With walls covered in local art, music and an interactive whiteboard, Good Grades’ Brooklyn location will school locals on more than just good weed.

“You may come for cannabis, but you may leave with lessons

Board rejects replacing an LGBTQ sports bar in the South End with a … – Universal Hub

The Zoning Board of Appeal today rejected a plans to replace Cathedral Station, 1222 Washington St. in the South End, with a marijuana dispensary.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean one of the city’s few remaining LGBTQ-focused bars will stay open. Michael Ross, attorney for would-be dispensary operator Nike John, said his client didn’t force Cathedral Station out; its owner wanted to retire. In chat for the Zoom hearing, though, Jeremy Cattani, who has worked at the bar since 2014, called that “misrepresentation” and said it’s a rumor that John and Ross made up.

Following a long hearing, the board initially voted 4-3 to approve John’s proposed Boston Garden dispensary, but zoning votes require at least five votes, so the vote lost. On a second motion, the board then voted 5-2 to reject her plans without prejudice – which means she can re-apply for the conditional-use permit she needs within a year. Or she could sue in Suffolk Superior Court to seek to “annul” the vote.

Board members Norm Stembridge, Katie Whewell, Jeanne Pinado and Dave Collins initially voted in favor, while Gio Valencia, David Aiken and Chairwoman Sherry Dong voted against. On the second vote, to deny, Stembridge, Valencia, Collins, Aiken
