DEA looks to reclassify marijuana: What that could mean for Tennessee hemp dispensaries – WZTV

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is looking to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, changing it from a schedule I drug to a schedule III.

But what will that difference mean for state dispensaries and consumers?

“We’ve already set up some regulations on THC. So hopefully, we continue to push those laws a little further,” Josh Manning says.

The DEA defines schedule I as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.

This is where marijuana currently sits, along with heroin and LSD.

A schedule III substance is defined as drugs with a moderate to low potential for physical and psychological dependence, such as ketamine and testosterone.

A recent study showed that, in 2022, daily or near daily marijuana use outweighed the use of alcohol for the first time.

That study reported a roughly 3 million user gap.

Marijuana use is not legal in Tennessee.

But would this reclassification change things for byproducts of THC that are already sold in the state?

Proponents say it could open up new doors for dispensaries in Tennessee.

Josh Manning, owner of Snapdragon Hemp, says…

“To be compared on the same lines as meth and heroin and stuff, it’s ridiculous. And it kind of always has

Fox localAdam ZielinskiMay 31, 2024 at 1:13 PM

DES PLAINES, Ill. – The owner of an unlicensed cannabis dispensary in northwest suburban Des Plaines is facing aggravated assault charges after he allegedly racked a weapon inside the business while customers were present.

Daniel J. Nardo, 33, of Des Plaines, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of disorderly conduct in connection with the incident on Thursday, according to a statement from police.

About 1:41 p.m., officers were sent to UP Cannabis Dispensary, located at 1173 South Elmhurst Road, after a 22-year-old woman reported that Nardo, the owner and sole employee, was inside the business ingesting helium and racked what appeared to be a shotgun, the statement said.

Officers met the woman at a different location, where she told police her and a 20-year-old male friend went to the unlicensed dispensary to purchase cannabis. Once inside, the woman said they saw Nardo ingesting what they thought to be helium or nitrous oxide.

Delaware Expands Medical Cannabis Access, Grants Physicians Discretion For Recommendations, Opens Dispens – Benzinga

Loading…Loading…

Governor John Carney (D) signed HB 285 into law, expanding medical cannabis access in Delaware. The new legislation, effective immediately, allows physicians to recommend medical cannabis to any patient who might benefit, without the need for a state-specific qualifying condition. Additionally, individuals aged 65 and older can self-certify for a medical cannabis registration card without a doctor’s recommendation.

Expanded Physician Discretion And Interstate Access

The new law grants physicians the discretion to recommend medical cannabis to any patient who may benefit from it, irrespective of state-specific qualifying conditions.

Furthermore, this law also grants state-registered patients from other states access to Delaware dispensaries. This move aligns with Delaware’s ongoing efforts to improve cannabis accessibility and reflects a growing trend toward more inclusive medical cannabis policies.

Paul Armentano, deputy director of NORML, advocated for the measure, emphasizing the restrictive nature of the previous qualifying condition list. “Physicians in Delaware are limited to recommending medical cannabis solely to those patients who possess one of a limited number of state-specific qualifying medical conditions,” Armentano stated.

Armentano highlighted that conditions like fibromyalgia and Tourette Syndrome were excluded from the list, limiting patient access. He stressed the importance of allowing medical decisions to be made between

Latest proposal for Danville cannabis dispensary includes truck stop, restaurant – news-gazette.com

DANVILLE — With two cannabis dispensaries — Sunnyside and Seven Point — now open off Lynch Road in Danville, a third is again being proposed.

The new proposal by MariWorks LLC of Chicago targets what is now farmland south of Interstate 74, and would include development of a Casey’s truck stop and more at the site, in addition to the nuEra cannabis dispensary.

A year ago, MariWorks dropped its request before the Danville City Council for a special-use permit for a dispensary at 500 Eastgate Drive near Danville Metal Stamping, finding it was unlikely the council would override, via a supermajority, the Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation against the permit.

The new request before the zoning commission asks it to consider development of land south of I-74 and west of Southgate Drive, that doesn’t have an address, to allow for a cannabis dispensary to be operated in the B-3 general business zoning district as part of a larger development.

The commission meets at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 17 W. Main St.

Laura Jaramillo, one of the owners of the social-equity license for a cannabis dispensary in Vermilion County and who works with nuEra, said it’s been a long process in

Opinion: Let’s dispense with the moratorium on dispensaries – Laguna Beach Local News – Laguna Beach Independent Newspaper

Billy Fried

Though we’ve long fancied ourselves a progressive and tolerant community, there can be no stronger evidence to the contrary than our spurious ban on cannabis dispensaries. How can our city government be so tone-deaf to the will of their constituents, who had the highest percentage of pro votes in the County on the legalization of both medical marijuana (Proposition 215 in 1996) and recreational (Proposition 64 in 2016)? It’s been nearly 30 years of residents saying yes and the City answering no.

We’ve long prided ourselves on being gay-friendly. We offer free healthcare to those in need, have a senior center for our elderly, and are trying to address affordable housing. So, how about being pot-friendly?

According to a recent study reported by the LA Times, more Americans now consume marijuana on a daily basis than drink alcohol. The only states where cannabis is totally illegal are Idaho, Kansas, South Carolina and Wyoming. Earlier this month, President Biden announced plans to reclassify pot as a less dangerous drug. And now, California is floating the “Munchie Bill” to make consumption and food service legal in dispensaries.

For those keeping score at home: Laguna’s licensed alcohol establishments – 100. Pot dispensaries, 0. How the hell is that representational government?

Why has

DC Circuit greenlights termination in Arizona dispensary labor dispute – Courthouse News Service

While finding that cannabis giant Curaleaf did not wrongfully fire a unionizing employee, the three-judge panel did uphold three separate charges for the company’s Gilbert, Arizona, dispensary.

WASHINGTON (CN) — The D.C. Circuit on Friday partially granted a request by cannabis giant Curaleaf to review a wrongful termination violation brought by a federal labor regulator.

At the same time, the court allowed the National Labor Relations Board to proceed with enforcement on what the agency says are three other violations.

The National Labor Relations Board charged Curaleaf, also known as Absolute Healthcare, with four unfair labor violations after regulators said the company made employees feel like they were under surveillance, threatened the loss of tips if workers unionized, promised benefits if they didn’t unionize and wrongfully terminated a unionizing employee.

Curaleaf, the largest cannabis company in the U.S., operates marijuana dispensaries across the country. The violations were focused on a specific dispensary in Gilbert, Arizona.

Arizona has had medical cannabis since 2012. Dispensaries in the state also began selling recreational marijuana in January 2021 following the passage of a ballot measure in November 2020. The events in the case stem from 2020.
