ACK Natural dispensary temporarily closed by state – The Inquirer and Mirror

(Oct. 13, 2021) The state Cannabis Control Commission has put a temporary halt to sales at the island’s newest marijuana dispensary, ACK Natural, closing down the Spearhead Drive facility for the past week and leaving its reopening date up in the air.

The issue, according to a statement from the CCC, was with the facility’s testing procedures for bacteria, fungi and mycotoxin, a byproduct of mold and fungus.

ACK Natural, along with The Green Lady, on Amelia Drive, face a testing anomaly under state law. Unlike mainland dispensaries, they are required to test their cannabis on the premises as opposed to at a separate testing facility, which in their case would require crossing federal waters, where cannabis is technically illegal.

“The Cannabis Control Commission routinely conducts announced and unannounced inspections of marijuana establishments and medical marijuana treatment centers,” a CCC spokesperson said Wednesday. “The agency is currently reviewing this licensee’s compliance pursuant to its modified testing system and is not in a position to provide further comment at this time.”

ACK Natural, co-owned by Doug Leighton, Zach Harvey and Mike Sullivan, opened in July inside a new 13,000-square-foot building which they received town approval for two years
