A cannabis dispensary operator owned by retired NBA players Al Harrington and Allen Iverson moved a step closer to opening a dispensary in Broadview last week.
During a regular meeting on June 21, the Broadview village board voted unanimously to grant a special use to Viola Brands for the operation of a cannabis dispensary at 1516 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Broadview.
The vote happened two weeks after the village’s zoning and planning board voted unanimously on June 7 to recommend that the village board vote in favor of the request.
Broadview village officials passed ordinances in 2019 that allow for the operation of two dispensaries — one in the Roosevelt Road commercial district and another in the Broadview Village Square shopping area — and a cultivation center in overlay district within an area zoned industrial.
