BOLINGBROOK, IL — At its Tuesday meeting, the Bolingbrook Village Board approved a special use permit for a cannabis dispensary on Weber Road.
The dispensary, called Cookies, would be located at 190 S. Weber Road, which was a former Bank of America.
According to Board documents, the dispensary would be licensed by the state. Photo ID would be required to enter, and be limited to those who are 21 and older.
The building would also have 24/7 security system. The business would be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week.
A special use was needed because a cannabis dispensary is not a permitted use in a B-2 zoning district, Board documents state.
Several residents spoke out against the dispensary during public comment, citing safety and location concerns.
Residents also pointed out that Bolingbrook has one other cannabis dispensary, Ivy Hall, which opened earlier this year at 361 S. Bolingbrook Drive.
Trustee Michael Carpanzano said he thinks there are adequate safeguards for the business, but the Village can continue to monitor and receive updates.
The Board unanimously approved the special use permit.
