Plantabis in Rahway in Union County and Blue Oak in Bloomfield in Essex County and recently opened New Jersey weed dispensaries.

By Heady NJ’s count, they opened the 92nd and 93rd New Jersey adult-use weed dispensaries. Both are locally and majority women-owned.

The pace of New Jersey weed dispensaries openings has become furious. About three others opened around the same time that Heady NJ will cover later.

Delays that had agonized the New Jersey cannabis industry and consumers have been overcome. Scrappy entrepreneurs, along with corporations of different sizes, are racing to be among the first 100 adult use New Jersey cannabis dispensaries.

The race for the first 100 New Jersey cannabis dispensaries has been won, with a few competing for last place.

The next race to win is the first 100 New Jersey adult-use cannabis dispensaries. Then, the race is for the first 100 exclusively adult-use cannabis dispensaries. Most of the first 35 or so sold medical cannabis first. They are largely Multi-State Operators (MSOs) based elsewhere owned by White men with some exceptions.

The NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission (NJCRC) has been eager to promote the number of women and minority-owned businesses in the adult-use market.

However, they have

“We’re offering an experience for every consumer that walks in,” said Adam. “A lot of places, you’re just going for a good, like an edible or drink. But we’re really offering a high-end experience that’s going to provide really knowledgeable education about everything that cannabis encompasses.”

It’s the first of what they hope will be several SweetLeaves locations and they decided the North Loop would be a great starting point.

“We wanted something vibrant, we wanted a highly-populated place and this will be our flagship location,” David said. “Ultimately this is the premiere location for us.”

Pleasantrees’ new 8,500-square-foot cannabis dispensary will emphasize the retail experience for buyers when it officially opens on March 29 in the Gibraltar Trade Center in Mount Clemens.

In an evolving industry that drove $3 billion in sales in Michigan last year, Pleasantrees is betting on hospitality to combat an increasingly saturated market, says Sarah Waldrop, director of marketing for Pleasantrees.

The buyer-friendly design features a large-scale LED wall, a built-in show grow from Pleasantrees cultivation, refrigerators for cannabis-infused beverages, and many more details.

“Leading with a knowledgeable and approachable staff of budtenders, the team at Pleasantrees is on a mission to make the shopping experience exactly that — pleasant,” says Waldrop.

While work on the facility at Gibraltar began last November, Pleasantrees has occupied the Gibraltar Trade Center space with a temporary dispensary for medical and recreational sales since 2022.

In addition, Pleasantrees commissioned Detroit Sign Painters to outfit the iconic sign along I-94 that depicts a man in a new blue suit to usher in the building’s new era. The art team includes the original sign painter’s daughter, Kelly Thomson McLeod, bringing the project full circle.

Belleville’s first pot dispensary gets $800,000 in tax breaks. It could be open by August. – St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Hannah Wyman

BELLEVILLE — The Belleville City Council has unanimously approved $800,000 in tax breaks to help what could be the first cannabis dispensary to open here.

The tax increment financing deal was granted last month to help cannabis investment firm Blounts & Moore with the remodeling and development of a $1.8 million dispensary facility.

Under the banner Market 96, the shop will be located at 7300 Twin Pyramid Parkway. In the development agreement, Blounts & Moore promises that the dispensary will create over 30 jobs and garner an annual revenue of at least $8.5 million. The company did not respond to requests for comment.

“Obviously marijuana gives the city an option for traditional retail tax and an option for additional tax,” said Clifford Cross, Belleville’s director of economic development, planning and zoning. “It’s a great source of revenue. … I haven’t heard any negative feedback.”

Cross said he isn’t too worried about losing sales to people traveling across state lines into Missouri for the lower tax rate.

“Do I think someone is gonna jump in their car and go across to save 10 cents on the dollar and save?” he said.

Scott Rudder.

Scott Rudder, the original founder of the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association, is opening his own dispensary, Township Green, on Monday in Riverside, aiming to help revitalize the downtown Burlington County city.

A former Republican mayor, assemblyman and veteran, Rudder dedicated nearly the last decade of his life to the legalization and entrepreneurial expansion of medical and adult-use cannabis. In 2016, he founded the New Jersey CannabisBusiness Association to serve as the state’s premier cannabis trade industry association. Rudder helped organize and was a top consultant to statewide campaigns to legalize cannabis in New Jersey in 2020, the same year NJ.com dubbed him the “Mayor of Cannabis.”

Located at 15 Scott St., Township Green will employ approximately 20 people, with the majority of them being local residents, some of whom can walk to work.

According to a release, the dispensary was born out of the idea that, in this new era of responsible, legalized cannabis, community matters most. It’s about making a connection with customers and sharing a passion and expertise so there can be a positive impact in the community.

“Township Green exemplifies what we hoped to achieve by legalizing cannabis in New Jersey,” Rudder said. “We’re focused

Michigan Cannabis Processor Loses License Over Unregulated Products

Michigan regulators said this week that a Lansing-based cannabis processor is surrendering its medical and adult-use cannabis licenses after mixing illicit material into its products, the Lansing State Journal reports.

TAS Asset Holdings, also known as Noble Road Company, has been shut down since February 2023 after regulators suspended its license for using unregulated THCa powder to create its ‘Space Rocks’ product line under the Fwaygo Extracts brand. Officials confirmed in the report that the company’s license will never be renewed, reinstated, reissued, or reactivated — limited or otherwise.

“Based on its investigation of the conduct alleged in the complaint, the CRA determined at the time that the safety or health of patrons or employees was jeopardized by TAS’ continued operation and that emergency action was required.” — CRA statement, via the Lansing State Journal

During their investigation, CRA staff uncovered video evidence of employees bringing unregulated product from their vehicles into the business. Investigators found dirty and cluttered areas on the company’s premises including leaking containers of various stages of processed cannabis and waste. Additionally, officials noted the company was utilizing an unapproved, unlicensed warehouse without surveillance cameras, and none of the cannabis products in the room were registered
