CB 11 rejects three of four dispensaries | | qchron.com – Queens Chronicle

Bearing signs that read “Drug Free Zone” and “Make Like a Tree and Leave,” more than 100 area residents attended Community Board 11’s Public Safety and Licensing Committee meeting —with several in person and many more on Zoom — last Wednesday as the panel approved one out of the four applications for cannabis dispensary licenses it reviewed.

The voting took place following last Monday’s heated full board meeting, which saw over 100 people voice their opposition to the proposed dispensaries, a topic not listed in the meeting’s agenda. Attendees especially opposed Canna Budda Corp., which would be located at 215-46 39 Ave. The site is 520 feet away from Sacred Heart Catholic Academy, in compliance with state law, which states that dispensaries cannot open within 500 feet of a school or within 200 feet of a house of worship. The committee read a letter from Assemblyman Ed Braunstein (D-Bayside) in which he opposed the application for its location “just one block away from an elementary school.”

For the second time, the applicant was not present, resulting in the application’s automatic rejection. The members resolved to write a letter to the Office of Cannabis Management rejecting all further applications for the site.
