Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A local CAURD license applicant has finally received word of their approval after nearly two years of waiting.

After nearly two years of waiting, Britini Tantalo said she had nearly lost hope. Her husband Jayson, who co-owns Flower City Hydroponics with her, recalled a phone call from the Office of Cannabis Management, informing him that the couple’s application for a Conditional Adult Use Retail Dispensary license had been approved. The couple now looks forward to opening the dispensary in the fall.

“No one had thought it would take two years,” said Britini. “I didn’t think we were going to get it, and hope was close to being lost.”

In May, Governor Kathy Hochul announced an overhaul of the relatively new regulatory agency. An audit previously revealed inefficiency and short staffing at OCM, causing long delays in the application process for those seeking to open dispensaries. As part of the application process, applicants like the Tantalos were required to maintain leases for their storefronts
