Great Falls board won’t recommend proposed marijuana dispensary zoning codes – Great Falls Tribune

The Great Falls Planning Advisory Board voted on Tuesday against recommending a proposed set of code amendments that would go into effect if recreational marijuana businesses were to be allowed in the city limits.

The city attorney and the Planning and Community Development Department will now take the input gained from the Planning Board back to the Great Falls City Commission, which will continue the process of gathering public comment and hammering out the proposed codes.

Although Tuesday’s meeting was a public one, no one from the public was present.

Currently, the codes state that “no use of land shall be permitted by right or conditionally permitted within the city of Great Falls that is in violation of federal, state or local law.” Since recreational marijuana use is still prohibited under federal law, marijuana businesses are not allowed within the city limits of Great Falls.
