Hamilton latest city to ban marijuana dispensaries – WKRC TV Cincinnati

HAMILTON, Ohio (WKRC) – Hamilton became the latest Ohio city to ban marijuana dispensaries Wednesday night.

Council members were scrambling to get a ban on the books before marijuana becomes legal for recreational use on Thursday.

They voted unanimously to ban dispensaries and cultivators until June 12. At that time they would become legal, unless the city extends the ban.

“I’m not a blanket ‘no’ because I believe and respect what the voters have done, and I believe in six months, we can start considering it,” said councilwoman Susan Vaughn.

“I believe we’re going to have dispensaries. I know we’re going to have them. I’m not against that part, but I want to know where they’re going to go and I want to make sure we get this right,” said councilman Eric Pohlman.

Issue 2, which legalizes recreational marijuana, passed by a 57% to 43% margin in November.

One councilman noted that 17 of Hamilton’s 18 precincts voted in favor of Issue 2.

Fairfield and West Chester have also enacted dispensary bans.
