Two potential business owners have gained South Euclid City Council approval to operate medical marijuana dispensaries in the city, should they get state licensing to do so.

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — City Council approved resolutions that, if licensed to do so by the state of Ohio, would allow two medical marijuana businesses to operate in South Euclid.

Economic Development Director Michael Love explained that the state will grant permits in Cuyahoga County to seven potential operators of such dispensaries. It will be the first such licensure since the state of Ohio granted in 2018 licenses to 56 cannabis dispensaries throughout the state. Because there are many applicants, it is not known if even one South Euclid applicant would be granted a license. In 2017, statewide, there were 370 applicants who sought to sell medical marijuana.
