Illinois Celebrates Milestone with the Opening of the 100th Social Equity Cannabis Dispensary in Champaign – Hoodline

In what marks a significant development in Illinois’ cannabis industry, the Pritzker Administration celebrated the opening of the 100th social equity cannabis dispensary in the state. SEquity Ventures, doing business as The Dispensary Champaign, is the latest store to benefit residents with its full adult-use cannabis products after receiving a dispensary license on June 6, according to illinois.gov. This move represents a determined effort by state officials to bolster an equitable market while addressing the longstanding injuries inflicted by the War on Drugs.

The Dispensary Champaign was ceremoniously opened with a gathering of industry stakeholders, including IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto, Jr. and Cannabis Regulation Oversight Officer Erin Johnson. Governor JB Pritzker was quoted, as saying, “From day one of legal cannabis sales in Illinois, my administration has been committed to making sure we don’t sacrifice a fair, equitable opportunity to join the industry – while also undoing decades of wrongs in the failed War on Drugs – just for the economic gains”. “More than three years later, we’ve consistently learned and made our industry more accessible,” he added, as per illinois.gov.
