BIG RAPIDS — Without fanfare, Lucky’s Community Cannabis Company opened for business July 18, in the upper level of the Star Shooters building at 120 S. Michigan Ave, becoming the latest marijuana retail store in Big Rapids.
The store is currently working on plans for a grand opening celebration in downtown Big Rapids in early September, although a definitive date has not yet been determined.
Liz Nolan, with Cannabis Communications, presented a proposal from the company to the Big Rapids City Commission during its meeting this week, requesting permission to close off one block of Michigan Avenue between Elm Street and Maple Street for the purpose of erecting a tent for the event, originally planned for Sept. 3.
“We would like to shut down the road from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.,” Nolan said. “The only thing that will be under the tent is two bands, at two different times, between 3 and 6 p.m., along with some vendors with artisan pieces and T-shirts. There will be no product outside of Lucky’s and no consumption or handling of product.”
