Medical marijuana dispensary coming soon to former Allentown area restaurant – The Morning Call

A building that was once known for its crab cakes will soon be dishing out cannabis in Lehigh County.

Curaleaf Holdings, Inc., a leading international provider of consumer cannabis products, is planning to open its first Lehigh Valley medical marijuana dispensary this summer at 1801 Airport Road in Hanover Township, according to the company’s website.


The site was previously home to Chess & Checkers Pub & Restaurant, which closed in December after more than 20 years of business.

In a June 16 statement announcing the opening of its Lancaster dispensary, Curaleaf noted that the Allentown outpost will mark the company’s 18th retail location in Pennsylvania.


“Pennsylvania has become one of the fastest growing medical markets in the nation and we are proud to be able to widen access to patients across the state,” Matt Darin, Chief Executive Officer of Curaleaf, said in the statement. “Curaleaf Lancaster is the Company’s first dispensary in Lancaster County.
