Evanston opens second dispensary on Chicago border – Chicago Tribune

Evanston has opened its second cannabis dispensary at the southern edge of the city on the corner of Chicago Avenue and Howard Street through a partnership between OKAY Cannabis and West Town Bakery.

The new shop houses the two businesses with OKAY set behind the bakery serving its signature cakeballs alongside breakfast foods, sandwiches and other items. None of the items in the bakery are infused with cannabis but those interested can buy those products in the dispensary.

A vibrant neon sign on the bakery’s back wall identifies the entrance to the dispensary.

The entrance to OKAY Dispensary sits behind the back wall of the West Town Bakery in south Evanston.

OKAY CEO Ameya Pawar cut the ribbon , officially opening the third tandem location with West Town. Other locations include the West Town neighborhood in Chicago and Wheeling.

The business name comes from Pawar’s idea that you don’t have to use cannabis to enjoy the space in the same way you don’t have to enjoy alcohol to go out to a restaurant or bar.

“You’re okay, we’re okay and most importantly, you’re okay here,” he said. “Adding hospitality creates space for new cannabis users and meets them where they’re at.”

The owner of a South Los Angeles marijuana dispensary and the shop’s manager were convicted of first-degree murder  Monday, Feb. 26, for killing an employee before burying his body in the Mojave Desert, where it went undiscovered for nearly two months in 2020.

The Los Angeles Superior Court jury needed less than three hours to convict Ethan Kedar Astaphan, 30, of San Gabriel and Weijia “James” Peng, 34, of Alhambra in the slaying of 21-year-old Juan Carlos Hernandez of Los Angeles on Sept. 22, 2020.

Jurors also found true an allegation that Peng used a deadly weapon, a syringe containing ketamine while committing the crime.

Hernandez was an El Camino College student with plans to follow in his brother’s footsteps and transfer to USC, his mother, Yajaira Hernandez has said.

“I’m sad my son is not coming back,” Hernandez said outside the courtroom following the reading of the verdicts. “I’m glad they got caught and they’ll be paying for what they did. Now we’re just figuring out what’s next and how to heal.”

Proposed Dispensary With Drive-Thru Set For Hearing In Gloucester Twp. – Patch

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A proposed cannabis dispensary with a drive-thru is scheduled for a hearing at Tuesday’s Gloucester Township Planning Board meeting.

The prospective business would go on 2751 Sicklerville Rd., which is currently vacant. Unity Rd NJ LLC, also known as Unity Road, has proposed a 4,290-square-foot dispensary with a drive-thru and about 35 parking spaces.

A hearing on the application was originally scheduled for Jan. 9. But the Planning Board meeting was canceled because of heavy rain and flooding that prompted Gov. Phil Murphy to declare a state of emergency.

Unity Road owns the 2.41-acre property located by the intersection of Sicklerville and Hickstown Roads. Nearby businesses include Wawa, the Caliber Collision auto-repair shop, and the Country Farm convenience and smoke store.

The proposed drive-thru would accommodate up to 11 vehicles. Only customers with appointments for pickups would be able to use it, per township regulations.

Unity Road’s property is in the township’s Highway Commercial Zoning District, where dispensaries can conduct business with proper approvals. The Township Council gave Unity Road a tentative nod in March 2022, and the business received a state cannabis license last August.

Because of the wetlands along the property’s rear, Unity Road is seeking variances to reduce the

Az bill aims to reclaim social equity licenses from investors, corporate marijuana dispensaries – TucsonSentinel.com

Arizona lawmakers are pushing to return social equity licenses for marijuana dispensaries to their original owners, alleging private investors and cannabis corporations used predatory tactics to seize control of nearly all the lucrative licenses.

Senate Bill 1262, introduced by Republican Sen. Sonny Borrelli, seeks to restore power to those the state’s social equity program was actually meant to benefit: people from marginalized communities disproportionately affected by past marijuana convictions. It would also allow the state Attorney General’s Office to investigate and punish entities that exploited those individuals.

“What we have here is an injustice that needs to be fixed,” Borrelli, of Lake Havasu City, said during a Feb. 13 Senate hearing. “We now have here in Arizona a situation where 24 of 26 of these social equity licenses are now fully controlled by companies or people who do not belong in these special groups to get this license.”

The legislation comes less than a year after extensive reporting by AZCIR showed the social equity program—part of a 2020 ballot initiative that legalized recreational marijuana in Arizona—was not working as intended, with powerful players hijacking much of the process.

Today, just one original applicant fully owns their social equity license and has opened a

This would add to the township’s current ban on medicinal marijuana dispensaries, which was adopted soon after the legalization of medicinal marijuana in Ohio according to Costello.

8 hrs 11 mins agoBy Zach Mosca

With the recent passing of Issue 2 in Ohio, which legalized recreational marijuana in the state, municipalities across Ohio are looking to create their own regulations on marijuana accessibility.

Boardman Township Trustee Tom Costello tells 21 News the township is looking to adopt a resolution to prohibit recreational marijuana dispensaries from operating in the township.

This would add to the township’s current ban on medicinal marijuana dispensaries, which was adopted soon after the legalization of medicinal marijuana in Ohio according to Costello.

Costello tells us the township is waiting to hear back from the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ohio Township Association on the language necessary to legally enforce this in the township.

This matter will be discussed at Monday night’s trustees meeting at 5:30 p.m.
