79% in US live in a county with legal cannabis dispensary: Report – NewsNation Now

(NewsNation) — Although marijuana is illegal under federal law, 54% of Americans live in a state where recreational use of marijuana is legal, according to an analysis from the Pew Research Center.

The analysis revealed that 74% of Americans live in a state where marijuana is legal for either medical or recreational use. Additionally, 79% of Americans live in a county with at least one marijuana dispensary.

There are nearly 15,000 cannabis dispensaries in the U.S., according to the analysis.

Number of retirement millionaires surged at end of 2023: Report

Woman-Owned Dispensary Opens By Cherry Hill – Patch

MERCHANTVILLE, NJ — A new dispensary opened Friday in the Cherry Hill area, with Gynsyng joining the region’s growing number of cannabis retailers.

Gynsyng (14 S Centre St., Merchantville), a woman-owned recreational dispensary, is located just blocks away from Merchantville’s border with the township.

Cherry Hill, which is currently mulling whether to allow cannabis businesses in the township, now has multiple dispensaries just outside of its boundaries. The first was MPX NJ in Pennsauken, which opened last year.

Gynsyng Majority Owner Jana Murzenski is a professional baby photographer who was born in East Germany. Alternative medicines weren’t available in the former nation, Murzenski says. So she’s thrilled to help others access such treatments through her adult-use business.

Murzenski was also inspired by her best friend’s son, who was born with epilepsy. THC has brought him closer to controlling his seizures than ever before.

“Watching them gain immense gratitude for the ability to utilize cannabis to improve his quality of life impacted me so much,” Murzenski said. “I find it really inspiring to speak with people in the industry and to continuously learn why more and more people use cannabis for health and wellness.”

Gynsyng occupies a former pharmacy space of 5,400 square feet.

New Jersey launches digital medical marijuana cards with no registration or renewal fees – The Philadelphia Inquirer

New Jersey cannabis patients and caregivers can now avoid paying sign-up or renewal fees for copies of their medical marijuana cards with the start of a new initiative from the state’s governing cannabis board.

Launched Friday by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission, the change comes amid reduced participation in the program as the state approaches its second anniversary of adult-use cannabis sales.

As an incentive to participate in the medical marijuana program, patients and caregivers can now sign up or renew their registration without having to pay the $10 fee for a physical copy of their medical marijuana card. Once enrolled, participants can download a digital copy that can be printed or shown at a dispensary on their mobile device.

“Our goal with this initiative is to improve accessibility and convenience for patients who require medical cannabis for their treatment,” commission executive director Jeff Brown said in a statement. “By offering digital options, we make it more convenient for patients to receive the care they need.”

Participants who still want a physical copy can pay the $10 fee, the commission announced last month. Medical marijuana registrations are valid for two years.

Why Are Denver Dispensaries Popular Burglary Targets? | Westword – Westword

Dear Stoner: Why are criminals still targeting marijuana dispensaries so much? Do they really have that much cash to take, or are they stealing the weed?
Ally

Dear Ally: Someone willing to steal a car and drive it into a storefront will probably steal anything valuable once inside, but dispensaries have fewer valuable items than most people assume. Cash is taken out of the registers, and the vast majority of product is locked up in the back after the stores close.

Most times when thieves break into a dispensary, they get little more than a few hundred dollars of refrigerated edibles and, if they’re lucky, an uprooted ATM. All it takes is one or two successful entries into the safe room or storage area to make it worthwhile, though, because ten pounds of weed or a duffel bag of rosin still go a long way even at today’s prices.

Riverside rejects Star Buds dispensary’s bid to open earlier – Riverside Brookfield Landmark

Riverside has rejected an informal request from the village’s only dispensary that would have allowed it to open one hour earlier each day.

As part of its Feb. 28 meeting, the Riverside planning and zoning commission discussed a petition to change the village’s zoning code to allow adult-use cannabis businesses to open at 8 a.m. rather than 9 a.m. The petition was filed by the village of Riverside on behalf of Star Buds, the only cannabis dispensary in town, which informally contacted the village about the change in January.

At the meeting, which also served as a public hearing, commissioners said they initially supported the move; however, after nearly half an hour of discussion, they rejected the bid and only changed some ambiguous wording within the zoning code.

The zoning code change was first mentioned by village president Douglas Pollock at the Jan. 18 village board meeting, during which he said village staff had “received an inquiry” from the dispensary about opening earlier. At that meeting, the village board approved having the planning and zoning commission consider amending the code.

Under the Riverside zoning code, dispensaries are permitted to operate from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., but at the

With cannabis legal, legislators debate local control over dispensary locations – Baltimore Sun

One year after setting up an industry that sought to tackle an inequitable, decades-long war on drugs, Maryland lawmakers are getting into the weeds on a handful of proposals some say will keep the state’s burgeoning recreational cannabis system on track.

“Y’all hippies voted for this. It is now legal,” Del. C.T. Wilson, one of the architects of the 2023 cannabis law, said at a recent hearing on bills aimed at protecting both cannabis users and businesses.

Wilson — who has said from the start he doesn’t particularly like cannabis, but wants to create a fair and robust industry to eliminate the illegal market — is focused on a bill to make sure counties opposed to dispensaries can’t block them from opening. The legislation is a response to Carroll, Prince George’s and several other counties  that have tried to go beyond the restrictions in last year’s law to limit where dispensaries can open.

Despite pushback from Prince George’s lawmakers, it’s possibly the most likely piece of cannabis legislation to pass before the annual General Assembly session ends April 8.

Wilson said he’s not sure whether another major bill aimed at protecting cannabis users from being discriminated against at work will get

Griffin spoke mainly about staffing for the new dispensary which is located at 91 Bingo Loop Road – the site of the now-defunct Cherokee Tribal Bingo operation.  He told Tribal Council that they’ve received over 1,400 applications from people desiring to work at the dispensary.

The number needed and hired will depend on one key factor – whether the dispensary will
