After six months, Onondaga County finally gets its second legal marijuana shop – syracuse.com

Clay, N.Y. — Lighting up for the holidays is taking on a whole new meaning this week for T.J. Lewis.

Lewis on Friday expects to open his shop, TJ’s Cannabis Co. He’ll become just the second legal, state-licensed recreational marijuana retailer in Onondaga County.

“I got the golden ticket and I’m ready to go,” he said. His marijuana retail shop, or dispensary, opens at noon Friday in the Longbranch Park Plaza off Route 57 in Clay.

For Lewis, it’s been a long and difficult wait. He’s had a preliminary state license to sell marijuana since May. But, like hundreds of other licensees across the state, his dream has been held up by lawsuits and other delays in the state’s roll out of marijuana sales.

In June, Onondaga County’s first marijuana dispensary, Flynnstoned Cannabis, opened at 219 Walton St. in Syracuse’s Armory Square. It has been the only licensed shop in the county, or anywhere in Central New York, since then. There have been a couple of temporary, pop-up shops in the county, but they must close by Dec. 31.

Along with Lewis, 12 other preliminary licensees have been waiting for the lawsuits to be resolved, and then for the state Office of Cannabis Management to

Voter Initiative Seeks to Let Cannabis Consumers Obtain Concealed Carry Permits

A Colorado voter initiative is seeking to let voters decide whether or not cannabis consumers should be allowed to qualify for concealed carry firearm permits under state law, according to a Denver7 report.

Currently, state sheriffs are prohibited from issuing the permits to anyone who would be disqualified under federal law, which still recognizes cannabis as a prohibited, Schedule I substance. The initiative seeks to update state laws so that the lawful use of cannabis does not stymie one’s application for a concealed carry permit.

Guns for Everyone co-founder Edgar Antillon said he considers the proposal a “freedom issue.”

“It’s one of those silly things that has been going on for a while. We’ve legalized marijuana, but we don’t give [users] the ability to defend themselves. Alcohol users get to defend themselves. Why not marijuana users?” – Antillon, via Denver7

The initiative, which is being championed by a pro-gun advocacy group called Guns for Everyone, appeared before the Colorado Legislative Council Staff on Tuesday to determine whether the proposal satisfies the single-issue requirement for Colorado voter ballot initiatives.

The initiative’s next hurdle will be whether it is accepted and titled by the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, at which point

New York Officials Shut Down Illegal Dispensary As Licensed Stores Begin to Open – Ganjapreneur – Ganjapreneur

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), Attorney General Letitia James, and the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) on Monday announced the forced closure of Big Chief Smoke Shop, an unlicensed cannabis retailer in Brooklyn. The closure came just one day before the opening of the borough’s first licensed adult-use dispensary.

Big Chief Smoke Shop had been selling cannabis products without a license since at least November 2022, according to a press release from the governor’s office. Officials said they previously inspected the location in August and October and, as part of each of those actions, they issued a Notice of Violation and Order to Cease Unlicensed Activity against the shop. They also claim to have confiscated more than 600 pounds of untagged cannabis and cannabis products from the site across both visits. In addition to the forced closure, officials say they are also seeking penalties from the shop’s owner and the owner of the building that hosted the unlicensed retailer.

Gov. Hochul said in a statement that New York has “no tolerance” for unlicensed cannabis retailers in the state.

“This site egregiously violated New York’s cannabis laws and I’m proud to be working with the Attorney General to shut this

Manlius cannabis grower’s showcase opens for the holiday season – WSYR

MANLIUS, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — New York State’s rollout of legal cannabis sales and dispensaries has been slow and clunky, to put it kindly.

It’s also left a lot of growers with piles of crops, but some places like the Town of Manlius are finding some small ways to help them.

Oneida Indian Nation to open its first dispensary in Verona

According to Manlius Town Supervision John Deer, the “Just Breathe: Cannabis Grower’s Showcase,” is a solution to the slower rollout of retail licenses.

“This is an opportunity for growers and producers to get some of their product out to the public, working with a licensed retailer, and it’s providing a little extra flexibility. We know we’ve got people who are interested in opening their own dispensary in the town, so this is a really good opportunity for us to test this out.”

The Cannabis Grower’s Showcase is essentially a pop-up dispensary, located across from the Daily Diner in the Limestone Commons area on 185 West Seneca Street in Manlius. The space opened on Sunday, Dec. 17, and will be open until the end of the year, closing on Dec. 31.

Ravenna, Streetsboro consider limits on marijuana dispensaries – Record-Courier

More than a month after a measure passed by voters permitting recreational marijuana took effect, some area cities are looking into what they want their zoning codes to say about it.

Streetsboro and Ravenna are discussing zoning issues around adult cannabis after passage of a statewide ballot issue opened the door to recreational marijuana.

Bob Finney, Ravenna’s city engineer, said he recently received an email from one of the owners of Supergood, a medical marijuana dispensary in the city. The letter, Finney said, stated that it looked like the state law would permit dispensaries such as Supergood to add adult cannabis to their offerings within 90 days, and asked what the city’s stance was on the issue. Council’s planning committee discussed some potential regulations before ultimately deciding to keep the matter in committee for further discussion.
