Palmetto Brothers Dispensary announced on social media on Monday that they will be closing their doors on June 22.
Wes Meetze, owner of Palmetto Brothers, posted the following:
“Well, this is a post we have been dreading for quite some time now. June 22nd will be the last time you will be able to purchase your favorite beer and wine at Palmetto Brothers Dispensary at 115 W. Public Square.
While operating costs have increased across the board, the major contributing factor in stepping away at this time is the dramatic increase in the cost of Liquor Liability Insurance. Our rates have gone up 325% since we opened our doors 3 years ago. We were holding out hope for a legislative fix this session, but that seems more and more unlikely by the day.
So what is the future of Palmetto Brothers Dispensary? It is uncertain at best. We are still shopping for an affordable Liquor Liability Insurance option that would allow us to transfer operations to Holmes Development’s new project, Harper Commons…and we aren’t giving up on that dream yet. So for now, we are going to say, “See You Later” as opposed to “Goodbye”.
Serving you beer and wine for the last three years
