Park Ridge aldermen Monday gave the final stamp of approval, over a litany of protests from opponents, to a special-use permit for a marijuana dispensary at 10 W. Higgins Road.

Per city policy, this was the second reading of the measure before the City Council, which first approved the permit at its June 7 meeting.

First Ward Ald. John Moran, 2nd Ward Ald. Fred Sanchez, 6th Ward Ald. Rick Biagi and 5th Ward Ald. Charlie Melidosian all voted in favor of the project at Monday’s meeting. 4th Ward Ald. Harmony Harrington and 3rd Ward Ald. Gail Wilkening voted against the project. All aldermen voted the same way on the first reading.

Property owner Hubert Cioromski and representatives from Bridge City Collective, which will operate the dispensary, declined to speak at the meeting.

But citizens who spoke against the project pointed out that the dispensary will be located in the 7th ward and objected to the fact that the ward did not have a representative in place to weigh in on the decision.
