Park Ridge could see a second adult-use cannabis dispensary open at 1036 W. Higgins Road as soon as next year now that the city council has approved a special use permit for the Schaumburg-based Nirvana Management Company.
The dispensary, which the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission approved last month, would operate under the name Sociale, according to city planning staff. It’s the second business to apply for a special use permit at the address after the first applicant withdrew from the process.
But the city council’s approval came with a catch: a last-minute amendment to the dispensary’s permitted operating hours that restrict the window in which the business can be open to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Nirvana representatives lobbied hard to keep the special use permit from further restricting hours of operation, which were proposed as 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
State law dictates that dispensaries may operate anywhere between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Nirvana Management representatives cited everything from businesses in the area with comparable operating hours to nearby towns that have people coming and going from hotels and entertainment venues at all hours to Park Ridge’s financial interests to make the case for staying open until 10 p.m.
But aldermen remained skeptical.
