WORCESTER, Mass. — Polar Park has signed a marketing deal with a Southbridge-based cannabis dispensary.
Sixty signs on light poles with the Green Meadows Cannabis Dispensary logo can be seen surrounding the outside of the ballpark.
Green Meadows Co-Founder Rob Patton said the deal is through the WooSox Foundation and Polar Park specifically, and there is no advertising inside.
He said Major and Minor League Baseball does not allow cannabis sponsorships, and per Cannabis Control Commission regulations, 85% of the audience you are marketing to has to be verified 21 years or over and they couldn’t guarantee that at the baseball game.
But when looking at housing data around the area, they verified an overwhelming majority of people there with direct sight lines of the light pole banners are over the age of 21.
Patton said the dispensary co-sponsors four events a year with the WooSox Foundation to support veterans and it’s one of the main reasons behind the deal.
