JERSEY CITY, NJ — Forty-eight years after he used to sell cannabis in California to support his pregnant girlfriend, rapper and “Law and Order” actor Ice-T has gotten approvals to open a cannabis dispensary in Jersey City.
The musician recently got approval from the Jersey City Cannabis Control Board to open a recreational dispensary, along with his partner, cannabis expert Charis Burrett, otherwise known as The Medicine Woman.
The 5,000-square-foot dispensary will open at 600 Tonnelle Ave., near the western edge of Jersey City Heights, overlooking Secaucus and about seven miles from Manhattan.
Ice T., whose birth name is Tracy Marrow, grew up in Newark and Summit, but had to move to California to live with an aunt after both parents passed away.
“I’ve dedicated my life and career to giving back and paving the way for minorities,” said Ice T. “As a New Jersey native, I’m excited for the opportunity legalization offers our community, and I look forward to ushering in a new era for cannabis in the state. I’ve partnered with my friend of over 25 years, Charis B who is an authority in cannabis.”
