Texas Chooses 9 Medical Cannabis Companies for Program’s Expansion

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has chosen nine companies for conditional medical cannabis licenses as part of its program expansion. The companies’ selection is part of Phase 1 of its medical cannabis program expansions, with three more conditional licenses expected to be awarded during Phase 2, which ends April 1.

The companies selected during Phase 1 include:

Dilatso, LLC  Lone Star Bioscience, Inc  Lonestar Compassionate Care Group, LLC  PC TX OPCP LLC (PharmaCann)  Story of Texas, LLC  Texa OP (TexaRx)  Texas Patient Access, LLC  Trulieve TX, Inc Verano Texas, LLC

All of the organizations will undergo due diligence evaluations, including previous disciplinary actions, financial suitability, litigation history, and any other information as required by DPS. Once a license is finalized, the licensee will have 24 months to become operational.

As of September, there were 127,206 registered medical cannabis patients in the state, according to DPS data. There are currently just three active licensed medical cannabis producers in the state: FLUENT (Cansortium), Texas Original, and goodblend (Surterra Texas).

The state medical cannabis program only allows low-THC products with 1 gram of THC or less per serving and does not allow any smokable cannabis.
