Developers who planned to build a marijuana dispensary just steps from the Wisconsin-Illinois border withdrew their petition after public opposition, according to Richmond, Illinois officials.Neighbors told 12 News they were not fighting the dispensary itself, but the location on the road from Wisconsin.The proposed site was right on U.S. Highway 12, at what neighbors say is a dangerous intersection. So many neighbors objected that a Monday planning meeting had to be moved to a larger venue at the local high school. Developers withdrew their petition before that meeting.”We’ve seen lots and lots and lots of accidents here over the years without a dispensary here,” Dawn Weinfurtner told WISN 12 News.There is only one road leading into and out of the subdivision and the proposed dispensary site, and only right turns are allowed. Neighbors feared that would pose a challenge to drivers heading south across the state line from Wisconsin and create serious problems for those in the subdivision. “It’s been treacherous.
