Here’s What to Watch for in Legal Weed in 2019

From weed shortages to edibles sales, there are a lot of issues to sort out.

The legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada on October 17 put an end to nearly a century of prohibition and was undoubtedly one of the biggest news stories of 2018.

But we’re really at the tip of the iceberg in terms of the shift to a legal regime. Here are some key weed stories to watch out for in the new year:

Cannabis Companies Expect Big Growth After Trump Legalizes Hemp

Lost in all the hoopla over the government shutdown is the fact that President Donald Trump just made hemp legal in all 50 states.

The 2018 Farm Bill Trump signed earlier this month allows for hemp cultivation and the transfer of hemp-derived products across state lines for commercial or other purposes.

Now that Jeff Sessions, one of the Trump Administration’s biggest opponents to legal marijuana, is no longer the U.S. Attorney General, the Feds have removed all restrictions on the sale, transport, or possession of hemp-derived products produced in a manner consistent with the law. This means life for sellers of Cannabidiol, better known as CBD, just got a lot easier.

These Will Be the Biggest Food Trends in Canada in 2019

With a new year on the horizon comes a tasty new batch of food trends, and here we round up five that we think will be super hot for 2019.

From more plant-based everything to infused H2O – these will be the biggest food trends in Canada in 2019.

With a growing amount of people gravitating towards a healthier, more balanced diet, 2019 is set to be a big year for plant-based eating. Foods like tahini, seaweed, tofu, and seitan will all be on the rise, with demand for “healthier” grub crossing over into the delivery space, too. With veggie-rich cuisines no longer geared solely for vegetarians or vegans, the rise of the Pegan diet (a cross-over between Paleo and Vegan) will also take center stage, with more and more meat-eaters looking for new and creative ways to inject plant-based foods in their routines.

Ganja On The Go – EPICAN Looking to Open Medical Cannabis Dispensing Machines

Medicinal cannabis dispensing machines, which operate in much the same way as traditional candy or drink-vending machines, will be available at select locations as soon as EPICAN gets the necessary approval from the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA).

While these cannabis dispensing machines will offer the convenience and choice selection as a drink-vending machine, the built-in security features will be a marked difference and will showcase the high technology being introduced by EPICAN.

One such machine is on display at the retail store in Market Place, Constant Spring Road, St Andrew, awaiting roll-out, and EPICAN’s chief executive officer Karibe McKenzie explained that the technology behind its design took into account, and addressed, the potential risk of abuse.

Wanna Get Higher than High? Don’t Hold Your Breath…

Everyone has their own unique set of ‘rules’ when it comes to getting higher than high. We’ve all tried all manner of weird and wonderful things to feel a bigger buzz – some of which turn out to be more successful than others. But then there are those standards that are followed instinctively by millions of cannabis users worldwide.

One of which being the classic technique of holding in every hit you inhale for as long as physically possible.

Some argue – quite vigorously, in fact – that holding your breath after each hit is a guaranteed way of intensifying its effects. You’d also be forgiven for thinking that there was a certain amount of logic to this theory. After all, the longer you hold cannabis smoke in your lungs, the more THC makes its way into your system…right?

At the risk of bursting an abundance of bubbles worldwide, holding in hits to intensify a high really isn’t the way to go. In fact, there’s every chance you could end up doing yourself more harm than good.

Why Heavy and Prolonged Hits Are Unnecessary

To build a picture of how it all works, you first need to understand

We Found Ancient Medical Marijuana at a Sex Museum in Las Vegas

Say what you want about Las Vegas, but there’s no denying that Sin City lives up to its larger-than-life reputation. Nonstop entertainment, check. Garish lights, check. Smoky casinos bustling with big winners and hopeless dreamers, check and check. But one thing the Civilized team didn’t expect to stumble upon while visiting Las Vegas last month was ancient medical marijuana. But that’s what we found when we stopped by the Erotic Heritage Museum on Sammy Davis Jr. Drive, right across from Trump Tower.

The Erotic Heritage Museum is best known for hosting burlesque shows, erotic art and provocative exhibits that challenge taboos and educate about the history of human sexuality. And that includes medical marijuana, which has been part of women’s reproductive health for millennia, according to the venue’s cannabis exhibit.

Wedged between the museum’s wall of placards recalling key moments in the fight for civil liberties in America, and a gallery of current and historic forms of contraception is a nook filled with useful information on the role cannabis has played in human sexuality for ages. Women have used cannabis to treat menstrual pain since at least 2737 BCE. And cannabis became a popular aphrodisiac in India in the 7th

Perth, Ont., Votes to Allow Cannabis Stores After All

Cannabis retailers will be allowed to set up shop in Perth, Ont., after the town voted in favour of permitting the stores — despite the wishes of the mayor.

During the fall election campaign, John Fenik pledged that if he were re-elected, he would introduce a motion at the town’s December council meeting calling for a minimum 12-month wait-and-see period.

Fenik was indeed elected, and on Dec. 18 town council debated whether or not to allow the stores in the community.

Ultimately, council voted five to two in favour of retail cannabis, with no year-long hiatus.

Marijuana by Mail: Neither Safe nor Sensible

Pot by post has been a thing for some time now. Even prior to legalisation across much of the United States, it wasn’t exactly difficult to find somebody somewhere selling cannabis online. Today, buying and selling pot via the web is easier than ever before. Whether on the lookout for Star Tonic or a batch of the fabled Hellfire Strain, it’s all right there for the taking.

Unfortunately, marijuana by mail isn’t quite the no-brainer it appears to be. In case you hadn’t already figured it out, current legislation governing cannabis distribution and use in the US isn’t exactly what you’d call simple. It’s quite to the contrary – there are hundreds of complex clauses complicating the whole thing.

One of which being selling and receiving cannabis by mail. Just because you can send or receive cannabis by post doesn’t necessarily mean you should. In fact, it’s neither safe nor sensible to get involved in any kind of marijuana mail transactions.

Until you obtain the necessary licence or radical new legislation is rolled out, the whole pot by post thing will continue to be a (very) bad idea.

Still not convinced? Here’s why buying or selling cannabis by mail

Blunts Vs Joints Vs Spliffs – What’s the Difference?

It’s the kind of faux-pas every cannabis newcomer makes at some point or another. You refer to one particular consumption method by entirely the wrong name and find yourself the laughing stock of those who know what they’re talking about.

As far as some are concerned, it really doesn’t matter how you hit it…just as long as you do. For others, the differences between consumption methods are as big of a deal as it gets. Even right down to those classic cannabis wrap-ups, they expect you to know the exact characteristics of your chosen handheld.

The question being – can you separate your joints from your spliffs and blunts?

If the answer is no, don’t feel too bad. Evidence would seem to suggest that most cannabis users pick one preferred word and stick with it, irrespective of how they’re smoking at the time. Some refer to every wrap as a spliff, others prefer the term joint and so on.

Still, if you really want to become a cannabis connoisseur, it’s worth familiarising yourself with this basic terminology. Plus, there’s much to be said for experimenting with different cannabis consumption methods, in order to find the one that suits you

Diagnosing and Dealing with Overwatered Marijuana Plants

When getting started with cannabis cultivation, it can be difficult to balance hydration. In fact, even the most experienced home growers occasionally struggle to get things right. Of all the cannabis cultivation challenges you’re likely to encounter, none are more common than overwatering.

It’s exactly the same with most house-plants in general. You know they need water, just as you know letting them get too thirsty is a recipe for disaster. With all the best intentions, you unknowingly give them a way more than they can handle. And as a result, you choke the life out of them…literally!

On the plus side, occasionally taking things too far with the hydration won’t necessarily wreck your plants. It won’t work wonders for boosting their final yields, but might not destroy them outright. Nevertheless, it’s down to you to identify the signs and symptoms of overwatering at the earliest possible stage. Do so and there’s a good chance you can reverse the damage, before it becomes irreparable.

Spotting the Signs and Symptoms of Overwatering

First-time home growers often assume that accurately identifying the cannabis plant problems is a challenge. In some instances, certain diseases and pest infestations can indeed be tricky to
