Silver Spring Rapper Phil Da Phuture Fatally Shot During Robbery at Northwest D.C. Dispensary – Source of the Spring

41-year-old Philip Prendergast of Silver Spring was fatally shot Wednesday during a robbery at a cannabis dispensary in Northwest D.C., according to Metropolitan Police Department officials.

MPD said in a press release that two armed individuals wielded handguns and forcibly entered the HOTBOX Uptown cannabis dispensary located in the 5100 block of Georgia Ave. NW around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, demanding cash and property from the victims, who complied with their orders.

During the robbery, one of the suspects discharged a firearm, striking Prendergast; the suspects fled the scene after obtaining the stolen property and money. Nearby cameras captured the suspects (video below).

Prendergast was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later died, MPD said.

Several area musicians who knew Prendergast took to social media to express their shock, including Silver Spring native Nate Bergman, who now lives in Nashville. “Don’t put off telling people you love them and believe in them,” Bergman wrote on Instagram. “Sometimes it’s too late. This one hurts.”

First recreational cannabis dispensary in Ontario County opens – News10NBC

First licensed cannabis dispensary in Ontario County opens

GENEVA, N.Y. — After months of preparation, High Points Dispensary held its grand-opening event in Geneva on Saturday — making it the first recreational cannabis dispensary in Ontario County.

It’s been a long time coming. After waiting months for clearance from the state to open his store, owner and CEO Daryl Hilkert says it’s about time.

When Hilkert received his license to sell cannabis last June, he never expected it would take nine months to open his store.

“The first lawsuit that came out in August – we really didn’t take that too serious. We knew it would shut it down for a while but didn’t think it would last forever,” Hilbert said.

A lawsuit that led to a state injunction blocking legal cannabis was just the beginning. With his license on hold, Hilkert was able to open temporarily through the Cannabis Grower Showcase Permit in November.

“We were able to team up with another fully licensed card, so we did that for a couple of months until the end of December, when they expired,” he said.

Since then, Hilkert has been building up his store, a former bank complete with a drive-through. And after months of cutting

Dan Herbeck ,  Samantha Christmann

The owner of a state-licensed marijuana dispensary in Blasdell said someone broke into his business and its walk-in vault and stole nearly $400,000 in cannabis products.

Whoever stole the pot on Feb. 23 was able to get through several locked doors, disable two security camera systems and use a numerical code to open the vault at the 716 Cannabis shop on Electric Avenue, according to co-owner John Duncan.

“I would definitely say that the person who did this had extensive knowledge of our business and the building we’re in,” Duncan told The Buffalo News.

He said the intruders walked out of the shop with 6,106 items, more than three-quarters of the shop’s inventory, including gummies, cannabis flower, vapes and other items.

“This has been devastating to a business that my wife and I spent more than three years to build,” added Duncan, whose shop opened in January. “We’ve basically put our life savings into this place.”

Mar 29, 2024, 9:43pmUpdated 2h ago

The first Jamaican-owned dispensary in the Bronx opened its doors on Friday.

The dispensary, called Two Buds, is owned by brothers Howell and Chris Miller. Howell is a former construction business owner who served time in the 2000s for possession and distribution of marijuana that impacted him and his family.

The time in jail led him and his brother to qualify for the New York state Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary Program that allowed the initial dispensary licenses to be granted to those with prior marijuana convictions.

The brothers say they are excited to start a new chapter where they can legally sell cannabis in the Williamsbridge neighborhood they grew up in.

“It’s like a dream come true,” said Howell Miller. “It was a real task. But nevertheless, we was able to overcome the tasks and get it done.”
