Six Suspects Arrested in San Diego for Operating Illegal … – Sierra Sun Times

December 1, 2023 – San Diego Police Department officials report that they are proud to share a significant update on our efforts to enhance safety in our community. Our recent operations have led to six arrests and the removal of large amounts of drugs and illegal firearms from San Diego streets.

Our investigations began in October, targeting narcotics trafficking. This culminated in substantial drug seizures, including counterfeit fentanyl and ecstasy pills, cocaine, and methamphetamine. A separate probe, initiated by community complaints, revealed illegal dispensaries operating alarmingly close to schools and homes. In one disturbing instance, such an operation was conducted from a home where young children resided.

During raids on November 28th and 29th, we seized hundreds of pounds of cannabis, numerous edibles and concentrates, and a loaded firearm near a middle school. This underscores our commitment to protecting our youth and neighborhoods.

Remember, while the sale of cannabis is legal in California under strict regulations, selling near schools, distributing dangerous synthetics, and possessing firearms in these contexts are serious criminal offenses.

Anyone with information related to these cases is to contact the SDPD or Crime Stoppers.

Howard Beach Residents Oppose Proposed Cross Bay Boulevard Cannabis Dispensary – The Forum Newsgroup

By Michael V. Cusenza

More than 300 concerned members of the Howard Beach community attended the Howard Beach Lindenwood Civic’s November meeting on Tuesday looking forward to hearing from the applicant of a cannabis dispensary license who is purportedly eyeing a location on Cross Bay Boulevard to open a facility.

Alas, said applicant, Andray Sukhu, was conspicuously absent from Tuesday evening’s proceedings at St. Helen Catholic Academy.

“We knew that this would be a hot topic and believed that most people in Howard Beach are opposed to such a business in our neighborhood. We wanted to give the owner the chance to be transparent with us,” said civic Co-President Barbara McNamara.

Sukhu initially agreed to attend the meeting, but later notified civic Co-President Phyllis Inserillo that he didn’t feel he had to answer questions in advance of being approved for the license.

“We gave him the option, he chose not to take it and is already showing us what type of community partner and business owner he potentially will be by refusing to be transparent and show up in good faith for our residents,” Inserillo said.

Attendees at an event at Greenlight Marijuana Dispensary in Independence judged the strains using Cannabis Cult’s rating system.

This October, I unveiled a new initiative from my company, Cannabis Cult, a sampler dubbed the Connoisseur Pack, at Greenlight’s Underground event in Independence. I’d first gotten the idea to put together a sampler pack in September, and I then

approached some of the best local cultivators — Greenlight, Local Cannabis Co., VIBE Cannabis, Vivid — about contributing their flower to the effort. The idea was to craft an experience that fostered pure, unbiased feedback, ensuring that cultivators could genuinely align with the impressions of their audience. To that end, at the event, attendees judged the pack blind using our Cannabis Cult rating system: structure, bud size, moisture, stickiness, aroma, flavor, smoothness and effects. But

R.I. reaps millions in first year of recreational cannabis sales – The Boston Globe

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Joseph Dwyer, 74, stopped into a Pawtucket cannabis dispensary on Wednesday afternoon, browsing the offerings on an iPad with the help of a sales associate known as a “budtender.”

He opted for the pre-rolled joints — “I have arthritis,” he explained — and was on his way.

The showroom replete with marble countertops, a cascading waterfall, and backlit edible displays is a far cry from how Dwyer said he once purchased “grass,” as he called it, as a teenager in 1967 on the black market in South Providence.

“It’s safer now,” Dwyer noted, adding that he uses cannabis for his leg pain in addition to recreational enjoyment.

As of Friday it’s been exactly one year since legal recreational cannabis sales began in Rhode Island, and monthly sales have roughly doubled since the launch, generating more than $60 million, while medical marijuana sales have steadily decreased.

Technically, recreational cannabis has been legal in Rhode Island since May 2022. But the Dec. 1 start of sales felt like the true start of the legal cannabis era, where an eighth of bud is now as easy to pick up as a bottle of cabernet.

What’s behind the rise in marijuana dispensary break-ins? – WXYZ 7 Action News Detroit

An alarming trend of break-ins at marijuana dispensaries across metro Detroit and the State of Michigan is continuing, and employees say more needs to be done to prevent them.

Just in the last two weeks, marijuana dispensaries on Detroit’s east side have been targeted in the middle of the night.

Earlier this year, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel charged a dozen people responsible for 20 break-ins at dispensaries across Michigan, and employees want more protection.

“It’s a symptom of what’s happening nationally, and something needs to be done,” Brian Hana from the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Committee said.

“I don’t know if there’s going to be a way to stop this and I don’t know where it does stop,” one course told us.

Detroit police say since January, there have been 20 incidents involving marijuana dispensaries. Of those, 16 were burglaries and four were larcenies.

Cloud 9 Cannabis on Detroit’s east side was one of the latest dispensaries to be targeted.

Suspects rammed an SUV into the side of the building and two armed suspects confronted the security guard in his car before carrying out two safes. Police are still searching for them.

The most recent one happened earlier this week at LIV Cannabis on Jefferson.

DeKalb’s first recreational cannabis dispensary opens Friday – Northern Star Online

DeKALB – Smoke weed everyday, or whatever Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg said. Excelleaf, DeKalb’s first recreational cannabis dispensary, will be soon hosting its upcoming grand opening.

Excelleaf, 305 E. Locust St., opens its doors for its grand opening at 9 a.m. Friday.

After being approved for its special permit back in February, Excelleaf had originally slated for an opening around the end of August.

The dispensary’s opening had to be delayed due to construction and a wait on state inspections, according to Excelleaf’s Chief of Operations Nakia McAdoo.

Despite the delayed opening, McAdoo said Excelleaf is excited to introduce the company to DeKalb’s growing businesses and the college town.

“We met with the mayor and Bill Nicklas and Dan Olson, and they were just really open to the idea of having a dispensary in DeKalb,” McAdoo said. “They were really excited about it, and so that gave us a sense of like we could really set up shop here and build here in this town.”

Excelleaf’s recreational menu provides its customers with a variety of methods to consume cannabis including flower by the ounce, pre-rolled joints, edibles, topicals and more, according to its website.
