Eric Adams Went in a NYC Weed Dispensary for the First Time (But Didn’t Buy Anything) – Hell Gate

On a chilly Leap Day morning, Mayor Eric Adams smiled as he stood next to Queens State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar, Cannabis NYC Founding Director Dasheeda Dawson, a mute Sheriff Anthony Miranda, and new dispensary owner Leeann Mata to talk business in the weed shop—Matawana Dispensary, the first to open under with the help of a new Housing Works-sponsored network called the CAURD Community initiative, and the first dispensary in Brooklyn owned by a Black woman.

The tone of the proceedings was accordingly triumphant, optimistic: “To have a shop open here on 5th Avenue is really—you’re like the modern day George Jefferson, movin’ on up!” Adams said to Mata, to hearty laughter from the room. “This dispensary opening is the signature to what we want to accomplish and what we want to do throughout the city,” he continued. “We are lighting up our economy with the nation’s most equitable cannabis industry. Others attempted, and they didn’t get it right—we want to make sure we’re getting it right, and we’re making history.”

Mata, whose dispensary will officially open at—wink—4:20 p.m. Thursday afternoon, thanked Adams for his support with a Matawana-branded gym bag, decorated with her dispensary’s logo, some stray nuggets of weed, and emblazoned

NC’s first marijuana dispensary set to open in Cherokee. Mark your calendar for … 420 – Yahoo! Voices

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in western North Carolina has set an opening date for the only dispensary in the state to legally buy marijuana.

In a historic vote on Sept. 7, 2023, tribal members overwhelmingly approved adult use of marijuana on tribal land. The tribe on the 57,000-acre Qualla Boundary had already approved the use and controlled sale of medical cannabis.

Elder Cherokee women work together to trim leaves from dried cannabis stems for the flowers, so the remaining buds can be collected and used as product.

The tribe plans to open the dispensary on April 20, Lee Griffin, human resources director for the tribe’s cannabis subsidiary, Qualla Enterprises LLC, told the tribal council during a council work session on Wednesday.

April 20 is recognized by marijuana users and producers as the national cannabis holiday.

“Across the country, it’s the biggest revenue date for cannabis,” Griffin said, according to a Charlotte Observer review of the tribe’s recording of the meeting. “It’s like New Year’s Eve at the casino.”

A hoop house is teeming with flowering cannabis plants on a farm owned and operated by Qualla Enterprises, LLC in Cherokee, NC. Cannabis plants reach the flowering stage after eight to eleven weeks. Once the plant

Eight In Ten Americans Have A Marijuana Dispensary In Their County, And Shops ‘Cluster’ Near Borders With Illegal … – Marijuana Moment

Eight in ten Americans now live in a county with at least one marijuana dispensary, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center. The analysis also shows that high concentrations of retailers often “cluster” near borders abutting other states that have “less permissive cannabis laws”—indicating that there’s a large market of people who live in still-criminalized jurisdictions who cross state lines to purchase regulated products.

With cannabis still federally illegal, the report underscores the glaring policy disconnect as the number of states that have enacted legalization continues to grow.

Using data from the market research firm SafeGraph and the U.S. Census Bureau, Pew found that 79 percent of Americans live in a county with at least one medical or adult-use marijuana dispensary.

Since Ohio became the latest state to enact legalization last November, 54 percent of the U.S. population resides in a state where recreational cannabis is permitted, Pew said. And 74 percent now live in a state where marijuana is legal for either medical or adult-use purposes.

California stands out among other legal states, with 3,659 dispensaries—”more than double the amount in the next-closest state.”  An entire quarter of all cannabis shops in the U.S. are located

Megan’s Organic Market Opens Friendly Dispensary in Old Town Goleta – Santa Barbara Independent

While the exterior of a former fortune-teller space at the corner of Hollister and Fairview remains unassuming, the bright red signs for Megan’s Organic Market invite locals into a cheerful cannabis shop. There’s ample parking, cute shopping baskets, and, inside, friendly budtenders ready to answer your cannabis questions. Megan Souza, the mother of the operation, owns four dispensaries in San Luis Obispo, Corona, El Centro, and now Goleta.

Megan’s is among the most welcoming of Goleta’s five dispensaries. And that’s her modus operandi. Megan began her cannabis career in 2010 with her husband, who owned a farm in Cayucos. “We started with cultivation, then added delivery under Prop. 15 in 2013 for S.L.O. and Santa Barbara counties,” she said. “Our all-female delivery staff wore cute handmade aprons and carried picnic baskets. People loved it.”

Those people, who Megan thought would primarily be college students, were folks wary of other cannabis delivery services but curious about products for medicinal support. “Our brand attracts people new to cannabis because it’s approachable,” she said. “We wanted to make the cannabis retail experience more normalized and comfortable. Women who lived alone or the elderly or people with serious health issues were a large part

Local dispensaries prep for recreational cannabis – Oxford Observer – Oxford Observer

Oxford’s medical marijuana dispensaries could be licensed to sell recreational cannabis by September 2024, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Cannabis Control (DCC) and an industry lawyer.

Consume Cannabis at 3620 Southpointe Parkway and Pure Iconic at 5280 College Corner Pike will be the only two businesses allowed to sell recreational cannabis in Oxford. A Jan. 16 ordinance by the city limited the number of licenses for recreational sale to two, and awarded both to the already-existing medical dispensaries, which will be able to apply for licensing at the state level when Ohio finalizes its legislation.

As a medical dispensary, Pure Iconic will enter a lottery to become a “dual-use” dispensary. The license it will seek has been designated a 10(B) license by Ohio.

Licensing will take months, though, as Ohio lawmakers work out the specifics. Paula Givens, a cannabis industry attorney and member of Pure Iconic’s ownership, wrote in an email that she doesn’t expect the state to get things up and running before September.

“September is the best case scenario for the 10(B) licenses if there is no legislative intervention, assuming the lottery process goes very smoothly,” Givens wrote.

As a prospective 10(B) licensee, Pure

First Black Woman-Owned Legal Cannabis Dispensary Opens In Brookyn – Welcome2TheBronx

New York City Mayor Eric Adams today celebrated the opening of Matawana Dispensary, the first Black woman-owned legal cannabis dispensary in Brooklyn. Building on an announcement in his State of the City address last month, Mayor Adams recommitted to supporting the equitable growth of the legal cannabis market and ensuring justice-impacted individuals are not undermined through an illegal market by working with Albany to grant local authorities the power to inspect and shutdown illegal smoke shops.

“For too long, Black and Brown communities have faced high rates of drug-related incarceration and have been denied opportunities to build wealth. As we close out Black History Month, New York City is taking steps to right the wrongs of the past by supporting equitable growth in the legal cannabis industry,” said Mayor Adams. “But it is not enough to support the opening of new legal cannabis shops — we must also close down the illegal operators that threaten the success of legal shops and put the safety of our communities at risk. We have been clear in our call to state lawmakers to give us the power to shut down illegal smoke shops, and we will continue to work with Governor Hochul
