New cannabis dispensary headed for Cheektowaga – Buffalo News

Western New York will get its 10th state-licensed recreational cannabis dispensary this weekend.

East Leaf will have a soft opening starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at its new location, 2442 Clinton St. in Cheektowaga.

The dispensary is owned by Gina and Glen Miller. The two also own Southgate Liquors in West Seneca.

The Millers were among the first four licensees granted in Western New York last April under the Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary program, which gives priority to people who have a significant business presence in New York State and have a cannabis-related conviction or a close family member who has one.

The pair had originally hoped to open by September but, as time went on, they became more concerned with doing things right than doing things quickly, they said.

Father And Sons Set To Open First Black-Owned Dispensary In Long Island City, NY – AfroTech

Brothers Rodney Jr. and Brandon Carter had two distinctive life journeys that later merged to form the first Black-owned dispensary in the Queens, NY, neighborhood of Long Island City.

The siblings grew up in a rough area of Queens. Their father struggled with substance addiction since he was 8 years old and later landed behind bars for a cannabis conviction, while their mother battled cancer during their formative years.

“Experiencing a childhood like that can either send you two ways. It sent me down the path towards the streets and sent my brother to school,” Rodney told AFROTECH™.

Before heading to college, Rodney recalls selling marijuana. However, a conversation with his mother inspired him to make better life choices. His mother succumbed to cancer when he was 22 years old, sending him “spiraling even further out of control.” But he will never forget one moment they shared in her final days.

“She begged me to stop selling drugs while she was on her deathbed,” Rodney expressed.

He continued, “I literally saw death on her face, and I saw the pain on her face and realized that she couldn’t let go. She was concerned about me and the rest of our siblings.

New breast milk dispensary to serve Dayton area – WYSO Public Radio

Ohio’s second breast milk dispensary has opened in Dayton. This will give mothers a place to pick up breast milk or donate excess milk to babies in need.

The new dispensary is a partnership between OhioHealth Mothers’ Milk Bank, one of the 30 milk banksin the United States, and the First Steps Breastfeeding Support Center at Kettering Health Washington Township.

“Sometimes there are little bumps in the road. This donor milk can help with that bridging.”

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommendsexclusive breast milk until six months, followed by continued breastfeeding with complementary foods until babies are two years old or as long as the mother and baby desire. However, there are scenarios wherein a mother and baby need donor milk.

“If the mother had a cesarean section, or a long epidural labor, she might need that extra milk as she gets her volume up,” said Katy Boyd, a lactation consultant with Kettering Health. “Also, if the baby is a little bit jaundiced or the weight loss is a little bit excessive, they might need a bit more milk.”

There are 29 milk drop sites across Ohio and interested donors go through a three step

Controversy over D.C. medical cannabis dispensary near school leads to first ever ABCA cannabis protest hearing – The Outlaw Report

Much of the protestants’ concerns centered around the school kids’ exposure to medical cannabis clients, risk of a cash business and exposure to cannabis advertisement.

However Jason Peru, ABCA’s head enforcement officer, testified that I-71 shops are the ones that are overtly advertising.

“The licensed dispensaries in the District, you could probably walk by most of them and not even know they are there,” Peru said. The law limits how medical dispensaries advertise.

Tommy Moungkhounsavath, the owner of DC Smoke, testified that they chose the location for DC Smoke near BASIS DC due to its proximity to metro stations and the busyness of the commercial area.

“We’re willing to comply at every level to make sure that children and just the neighborhood in general is okay with us being there,” Moungkhounsavath said.

However, multiple witnesses representing the schools cited further costs for children supervision and drug education as well as safety concerns. Lawyers for DC Smoke labeled the protestants’ safety concerns as speculation and not based in fact.

The protesting witnesses conflated unlicensed shops with current medical dispensaries. None of them said they had visited a current medical facility. ABC board member, James Short encouraged them to do so to inform their perceptions and be “well

Ypsilanti is full of marijuana dispensaries. Officials consider ways to limit more. – MLive.com

YPSILANTI, MI – Ypsilanti has one of the highest number of marijuana dispensaries per capita in the state, according to city planner Joshua Burns.

City leaders are responding by advancing zoning changes to further restricting the potential for more dispensary developments, the latest in a series of efforts to limit cannabis retailers amid concerns that Ypsilanti is becoming “weed city.”

There are currently 13 dispensaries in Ypsilanti, according to Burns. He said that if the city had an amount proportional to Ann Arbor, there would be just three dispensaries.

The regulations will shrink the amount of available locations for potential marijuana retailers but do not set a hard cap on the number of businesses, said Andy Aamodt, a planning consultant working with the city’s planning commission, at Ypsilanti City Council’s Tuesday, April 2 meeting.

Among other measures, the changes close a loophole exempting marijuana microbusinesses, a state category geared toward small-batch retailers, from buffering rules, which restrict distance between businesses in certain areas.

The zoning ordinance will not eliminate any existing businesses, but would decrease the number of potential incoming businesses to about four. Without the measures, between eight to over a dozen locations could remain available to potential businesses, Aamodt said.
