Az dispensaries recalling Onion Bhaji marijuana flower over aspergillus contamination – TucsonSentinel.com

Arizona dispensaries are voluntarily recalling a marijuana product due to possible contamination with aspergillus, a fungus that can cause allergic reactions or infection — usually in people already sick with something else.

The product being voluntarily recalled is The Flower Shop’s Onion Bhaji, in flower form, batch number OBHA111423.

To date, no illnesses have been reported.

Patients who have purchased a potentially contaminated product should not ingest, inhale, or otherwise consume them, and the Arizona Department of Health Services is advising purchasers to dispose of the product described.

Anyone who has already taken any of the products and has any of these symptoms should contact their healthcare provider or seek care in the event of an emergency.

Consumers should contact the dispensary or establishment where they purchased the products if they have any questions.

Symptoms of allergic reactions or infection from aspergillus range from asthma or cold-like symptoms to fever and chest pain, among many others.

A full list of symptoms can be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website.

ADHS Laboratory auditors were made aware of errors in testing results, leading to potentially false negative results for the contaminant.

Once ADHS discovered the potential contamination, they contacted the facility that produced the products. The

Queens Catholic Academy Parents Strongly Opposed Cannabis Shop Opening Near School – The Tablet Catholic Newspaper

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams brandish some hardware to pledge their unified front to “padlock” stores that sell illicit cannabis products. The appearance was made April 19 in Manhattan to unveil legislation to enhance enforcement of the state’s legal cannabis regulatory abilities. Included is the deputizing of local law enforcement officers to help state officials clamp down on the illegal “pop-up” weed retailers. (Photo: Office of the Governor of the state of New York)

BAYSIDE — Realizing the need for a tougher crackdown on shops dealing illegal marijuana, Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams last month unveiled a unified front to thwart the proliferation of unlicensed cannabis retailers across the city and state.

But weeks earlier, parents of students at Sacred Heart Catholic Academy in northeast Queens made it clear that even a legally licensed cannabis dispensary in their neighborhood was cause for alarm.

That’s why, on Feb. 5, they were in the crowd at a packed Community Board 11 meeting to protest a license request for a marijuana dispensary proposed by Canna Buddha Corporation.

The New Mexico-based company wanted to put the new dispensary at 215-46 39 Ave. — 520 feet from the academy located at

Study: Psilocybin Shows Promise in Treating Depression

A recent study in the United Kingdom found that psilocybin, the naturally occurring psychedelic compound in hallucinogenic (or “magic”) mushrooms, is an effective treatment for depression.

Researchers behind the study found that psilocybin outperformed niacin (or Vitamin B), microdoses of other psychedelics, and a placebo in the treatment of depression symptoms, according to a Medical News Today report.

The peer-reviewed research, published in The BMJ, represents a systemic review and meta-analysis of past studies. Researchers utilized seven randomized controlled trials that included studies comparing psilocybin’s efficacy as a depression treatment to other substances, and studies utilizing psychotherapy under both the experimental and control conditions so that psilocybin’s effects could be distinguished from those of psychotherapy, the report said.

The report’s authors called for more research into the subject before considering or enacting changes at the clinical level.

Dr. Akanksha Sharma — a neurologist, neuro-oncologist, and palliative medicine practitioner at Pacific Neuroscience Institute in Santa Monica, California — told Medical News Today that psychedelics like psilocybin can re-wire the brain’s response to stress and negative emotions, but that scientists do not fully understand the process.

“At this point, we know that altered states of consciousness can help patients face and process

Voters Reject Local Cannabis Reforms In Lubbock, Texas

Voters in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday rejected a local cannabis decriminalization ballot measure, the Texas Tribune reports.

The proposal — which sought to prevent Lubbock law enforcement from arresting or prosecuting adults caught with four ounces or less of cannabis — was rejected by nearly 65% of voters during the city’s municipal election.

A spokesperson for Lubbock Compact, the community advocacy group and public policy think tank behind the decriminalization campaign, said low voter turnout caused the campaign to come up short.

“We worked hard on it, we had a lot of volunteers. We just weren’t able to get the voter turnout high enough.” — Adam Hernandez, via the Texas Tribune

The Lubbock City Council had previously rejected the reforms, which kicked the issue to voters.

If the ordinance had passed, Lubbock would have joined five other Texas cities — Austin, Killeen, Denton, Elgin, and San Marcos — in passing local, low-level cannabis decriminalization reforms. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, however, has argued that local cannabis decriminalization policies violate state laws and the state constitution. The attorney general formally filed a lawsuit against the cities in January.

The city of Harker Heights also approved similar decriminalization reforms but the City

The tech powering Philadelphia’s 24/7 cheese dispensary – Technical.ly

Sitting in my car outside Perrystead Dairy, where Old Kensington meets Fishtown, I used my fingernail to puncture the plastic wrap of a tiny wheel of perfectly ripened Intergalactic cheese, procured from the dairy’s new “dispensary.”

I had tapped my phone against the vending machine’s card reader to pay $16.99 for my precious bit of gooey heaven.

It didn’t come with utensils, so I peeled the little wheel’s paper wrapping aside and bit into the wheel like a cupcake. The company’s signature product — which nabbed a silver at the 2023-2024 World Cheese Awards in Norway  — was tangy, creamy, mildly cool, and far superior to any actual cupcake.

Novel for Philadelphia, cheese vending machines are a familiar sight in rural areas of Europe, like the Swiss Alps.

“They’re even in Paris!” said Yoav Perry, the managing partner, founder and head cheese maker at Perrystead, which opened in 2021. “Though it’s almost like a gimmick in Paris because there are fromageries all around and cheese vending machines aren’t needed,” he added, noting this might be the first time there’s been a connection made between Philly and the Alps. “The technology is familiar, but the setting is new.”

Its introduction to
