He was identified as 41-year-old Philip Prendergast, of Silver Spring.

On Monday, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 21-year-old Trenton Collins, of Northwest, D.C. in connection to the deadly robbery.

Florida GOP Announces Opposition to Cannabis Legalization Amendment

The Republican Party of Florida’s Executive Board last weekend unanimously passed a resolution opposing the state’s cannabis legalization amendment that voters will consider in November.

The cannabis ballot question, Amendment 3, seeks to legalize the possession and use of cannabis by adults aged 21+ and would allow medical dispensaries to begin serving adult-use customers. Republicans also formally stated their opposition to Amendment 4, which seeks to enshrine the right to abortion access in the state’s constitution.

Both ballot proposals are constitutional amendments, which will require at least 60% voter support to pass.

“Floridians are confident that their legislature has been passing laws that reflect the priorities of our state. Amendments 3 and 4 are unnecessary attempts by an increasingly shrinking minority who know the only way to win support for their radical agenda is to confuse and mislead the electorate.” — Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power, in a press release

Polling data from last September put public support for cannabis legalization at 60% — the exact threshold for victory at the ballot box — but another survey in April regarding November’s legalization vote found just 49% of respondents saying they would vote “yes” on the issue.

In the press release,

New Jersey Sets New Cannabis Sales Record But Growth Is Slowing

New Jersey adult-use cannabis sales continue to set new records but sales growth has started to show signs of slowing, the New Jersey Monitor reports.

Licensed cannabis dispensaries sold $201 million worth of adult-use cannabis during the first three months of 2024, a new quarterly sales record and a 38% year-over-year growth.

However, the quarterly sales record also marked only a 4.4% increase from the previous quarter, which is the lowest growth for the industry on record — and, previously, the lowest quarterly cannabis sales growth on record was the final quarter of 2023, the report said. The slowing rate suggests that the industry’s growth could be starting to plateau after two years of explosive growth.

However, it can be normal for cannabis retailers’s first-quarter sales to slump after the holidays, New Jersey CannaBusiness Association President Scott Rudder said in the report. Sales tend to pick up again around 4/20 and with the return of spring and summer, “so your second, third, and fourth quarters are usually your best quarters,” he said.

“The significant growth in sales year over year is an indication of the strong potential of New Jersey’s cannabis market. We anticipate that as even more dispensaries open

Man arrested in fatal dispensary shooting of DC rapper; police release video of possible suspect – WTOP

A man has been charged in the fatal shooting of local rapper Phil Da Phuture during a robbery at a Northwest D.C. dispensary where the rapper worked, D.C. police said.

On Monday, 21-year-old Trenton Collins was arrested and charged with first degree murder while armed.

Police said Collins had entered a Northwest D.C. cannabis dispensary in March and demanded money from the patrons and employees. During the robbery, he fired a shot, fatally striking 41-year-old Philip Prendergast after he had cooperated with Collins. The suspects took the property and money before fleeing the scene, according to police.

Prendergast later died at a hospital.

Police are continuing their search for the second suspect in the robbery and have released surveillance video from the incident:

O’Fallon, Illinois is now home to a new breast milk dispensary – STLPR

When a baby is born, a mother’s breast milk helps the child grow safe and healthy. But many new moms have trouble breastfeeding their newborns.

A newly opened dispensary at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois, is offering donated milk to families in the Metro East who need breast milk for their babies.

The hospital opened the dispensary after a lactation nurse found many of her patients were having trouble breastfeeding but didn’t know where to find donor milk in the region, said Amanda Schaefer, the manager of the hospital’s women and infants center.

“To my knowledge, from when you cross over into Illinois from Missouri, and then all the way up until Carbondale, there’s not a dispensary,” she said. “So this is a very wide range of people that we can reach.”

Children’s health advocates and medical experts — including the American Academy of Pediatrics — recommend newborns consume breast milk for the first six months of life. Breast milk is associated with health benefits, including lower rates of certain infections.

But some mothers either can’t breastfeed or don’t create enough milk for their babies, Schaefer said. Others need a few days to get the hang of breastfeeding before they can nurse on

SPEARFISH — By city ordinance, there can be only one medical marijuana dispensary in Spearfish. That dispensary is selected by means of a lottery, drawing only from a pool of vetted and pre-qualified applicants.

Adding a second license, and dispensing with the lottery system, may be on the horizon.
