Alton Dispensary opening dependent on Alton City Code change – Alton Telegraph

ALTON – Alton City Council aldermen laid over a motion to amend Title 4, Chapter 24 of the Alton City Code regarding cannabis dispensaries on Monday.

This decision may delay the opening of Alton Dispensary, owned by IllinoisCannabis49, at 3401 E. Broadway

The amendment was regarding the cannabis zoning map. The City Code currently splits Alton into two zones, Zone 1 in the north and Zone 2 in the south. This allows each zone to have one active dispensary at a time.

The proposed amendment to the City Code would allow the Alton Dispensary to become a part of Zone 1, allowing both businesses to exist at the same time. 

“What this is going to do is one: add competition to an area that I think was not initially intended, but two, it’s going to make the entire northern portion of Zone 1 unusable for any other dispensary,” Little said.

The Alton Dispensary was originally located at 1400 E. Broadway, the same building Terrace currently occupies. When the Alton Dispensary first opened in May 2023, it was managed by Subsero Alton Ops, LLC.
