Review Finds Many Hemp and CBD Products Sold on Amazon Mislabeled

A report published last week by CBD Oracle found hemp products sold via Amazon were deceptively labeled, with 30% containing undeclared CBD, 36% containing no hemp at all – not even hempseed oil – three of the 56 products containing large doses of delta-8 THC, and about half making an unapproved medical claim.

To conduct the study, CBD Oracle purchased 56 products from Amazon in December 2023 and January 2024. The products were chosen based on a search for “cbd gummies,” “hemp” and similar terms used by brands, such as “delta gummies.” In all, the review included 45 gummies, eight tinctures, two topical creams, and one pack of mints. The products were available despite Amazon’s official policy banning them. The products were sent to InfiniteCal Labs for testing.

In a statement, Erik Paulson, PhD, lab manager at InfiniteCAL, said people buying hemp or CBD products from Amazon believing they will derive some benefit are “essentially rolling the dice.”

“You could be getting CBD-infused products, THC-infused products, hempseed oil-infused products,” he said in a press release, “or it’s very likely you would be getting a product with no hemp in it at all.”

German Lawmakers Pass Cannabis Legalization With Reforms Taking Effect April 1

German lawmakers on Friday gave final approval to the long-awaited cannabis legalization bill, the Associated Press reports. The legislation, which legalizes personal possession up to an ounce and allows individuals to cultivate three plants, is set to take effect next Monday, April 1.

A second part of the bill allowing nonprofit “cannabis clubs” will take effect July 1. Provisions in the bill will permit German residents to buy cannabis from the clubs, with limits for residents under 21-years-old set at 30 grams per month. Residents 21-and-older can purchase up to 50 grams per month. Daily purchase limits for residents 18-and-older are set at 25 grams per day, the report says. The clubs, will be funded through membership fees, which are determined by how much cannabis members purchase. Clubs may have a maximum of 500 members.

In a statement posted to X, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach wrote that “Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the black market today.”

Adult-Use Cannabis Constitutional Amendment Proposed in Arkansas

A constitutional amendment to legalize cannabis for adult use has been filed in Arkansas, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports. The proposed ballot language was submitted to the state attorney general’s office last week for review. The attorney general has until April 2 to issue a response.

To get the question on November ballots, the petition will need 90,704 signatures submitted to the secretary of state by July 5.

Under the amendment, residents would be allowed to purchase up to four ounces of smokeable or vaporizable cannabis a day, cultivate up to 12 plants, and purchase “any quantity” of cannabis seeds or cannabis food and beverage products.

The measure would allow two classes of licenses: a Class A license, which “would permit the possession, cultivation, transport and sale of recreational marijuana plants and seeds” and a Class B license which “would permit the possession, cultivation, production, transport and sale of recreational marijuana plants, seeds, and permits the production and sale of produced from the plant,” according to the amendment’s ballot title outlined by the Democrat-Gazette. The licenses would require applicants to have resided in the state for at least three years and include a maximum $250 annual

Newark eyes tight restrictions on where marijuana dispensaries can open – Newark Post

Newark is considering tight restrictions on where recreational marijuana dispensaries can open within the city.

Council members were sharply divided Monday night on whether dispensaries should even be allowed in Newark, but it appears there is a slim majority in favor of allowing dispensaries to open on the outskirts of town, with strict conditions.

Brainerd looks to regulate cannabis dispensaries – INFORUM

BRAINERD — With last year’s legalization of recreational marijuana in Minnesota, Brainerd officials are looking to get ahead of demand and create citywide guidelines for cannabis dispensaries in the city.

While city staff have not yet heard from anyone with intentions of opening a dispensary, they’d like to have regulations in place if and when the time comes.

Planning Commission members reviewed proposed language for an ordinance during their meeting Wednesday, March 20. Community Development Director James Kramvik said he reviewed legislation from other municipalities when drafting the language for Brainerd.

Commission Chair Don Gorham asked if there was any guidance from the state Office of Cannabis Management, and Kramvik said it sounds like the department is understaffed at this time and doesn’t plan on issuing statewide regulations on dispensaries any time soon.

Kramvik’s proposal states cannabis dispensaries would only be allowed in six of the city’s zoning districts — General Commercial, Commercial Corridor, Main Street, Town Center, Makers and Employment, and General Industrial. While the Traditional Neighborhood 2 district also allows for commercial use, Kramvik said those areas are excluded from the ordinance, as they are lower traffic areas where a developer is unlikely to spend the $500,000 to $1 million needed

Sweetgrass Botanicals Wins Dispensary of the Year at NECANN – Chronogram

As legal cannabis shifts from counterculture to common culture, dispensaries are also evolving. They’ve typically operated like a pharmacy—you wait on line at a counter, ask a question or two, pick your products, then head out. And this system works for many. But as awareness grows about the multifaceted uses of the plant—whether for medicine, pleasure, or general wellness—there are communal bonds being built between consumers and dispensers not often seen with traditional pharmacies, with reasons to gather beyond the original purpose, like live music, discussion groups, or joint-rolling workshops.

Sweetgrass Botanicals in Lee, Massachusetts took the concept of a dispensary that doubles as a community center, and went running with it. “We bought a crazy, rambling 6,000-square-foot building overlooking a lake that serves as a dispensary, mercantile, lounge, and manufacturing location, with an in-house hash lab and commercial kitchen,” explains owner Cassandra Purdy.

Open since early February, Sweetgrass set roots in what was formerly the Cork ’N Hearth, a landmark Berkshires restaurant run by a husband-wife team for 27 years, and a tavern or restaurant of some iteration since 1874. “It was where everyone went for any occasion, with copper kettles on the wall and a

One of NJ’s biggest cannabis advocates, Rudder launches his own dispensary – NJBIZ

Listen to this article

Scott Rudder, one of the most prominent figures in the Garden State’s evolving cannabis landscape, launched his own dispensary in South Jersey.

Township Green opened March 25 at 15 Scott St. in Riverside. The shop offers a menu of premium cannabis flower, pre-rolls, concentrates, vapes, tinctures, edibles and accessories.

Rudder, a former New Jersey state assembly Republican member, military veteran and Medford mayor, commented, “We want Township Green to serve as an example of how to create a sense of community within the cannabis industry. For us, it’s not just about providing a great product. We want Riverside and surrounding towns to feel comfortable here and feel like Township Green is a positive member of the community.”

Rudder is also the founder of the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association. He said he launched the dispensary as part of a commitment to help revitalize and drive foot traffic to Riverside’s downtown business district.

The new dispensary will employ 20 employees — the majority being local residents. Its staff also includes retired Riverside police chief William Eliason as head of security as well as several local firefighters as security personnel.

Dispensaries won’t bite — what you can expect at an NJ weed shop – New Jersey 101.5 FM

⚫ New Jersey has more than 100 dispensaries⚫ Shop owners don’t want you to feel intimidated⚫ ‘Budtenders’ are trained to get a feel for the product you may need

Danielle Wildstein’s mother passed away before medicinal marijuana became legal in New Jersey and could have helped her pain.

As Wildstein attempted to learn more about the cannabis industry in other states, she was hamstrung by feelings of intimidation and insecurity any time she’d walk into a dispensary.

“I had such anxiety over going to the right place, asking the right questions, not looking silly,” Wildstein told New Jersey 101.5.

So it was her goal to create a space that offered the opposite vibes to prospective customers who’d walk through the door.

“I wanted to create a boutique environment where it was welcoming to all — everyone on the cannabis use and knowledge spectrum,” Wildstein said.

And at the end of February, her dream became a reality: Blue Oak Dispensary in Bloomfield.

Customers need to prove they’re at least 21 years old to enter, but they won’t be greeted by a police officer or a security guard — just a staff member in a Blue Oak t-shirt, Wildstein said.

Wildstein’s independent venture is a microcosm of a marijuana industry
