One year of legal pot in RI: How much higher will sales climb? – The Providence Journal

PROVIDENCE – As the first anniversary of legalized recreational pot approaches, state records show a steady monthly increase in sales, with October’s $7 million in adult-use purchases just below September’s record-setting $7.1 million.

Meanwhile, the monthly sale of medical marijuana to licensed patients – who pay 13% less in taxes – predictably fell during the last 11 months, from $3.9 million last December, when recreational sales began, to a record low of $2.3 million in October.

Combining the two categories, Rhode Island’s seven marijuana dispensaries sold in October a total of $9,430,642 in cannabis products. That figure, from the most recent data of the Office of Cannabis Regulation, was slightly below the record set in September of $9,633,352.

So, what do the numbers signal for Rhode Island’s expanding marijuana market?

“I think time will tell,” said Erica Ferrelli, chief of strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation for the cannabis office. “I think the numbers are good. They are going up every month, if not staying at a nice level over the past five months. I think it’s a little too early to double down on whether the numbers will continue to increase. They seem to have leveled off, so we might have hit a saturation point. I think we

Lower Manhattan pot shops are now on the agenda at Community Board 1.

This month the board got its first taste of the state’s vetting process for would-be marijuana retailers. Community boards have a role in approving marijuana stores in their area, a new procedure that CB1 chair Tammy Meltzer called “a little bit of the Wild West” for its slow, chaotic rollout.

On Nov. 16, the board’s Executive Committee faced what appeared to be a daunting list of 27 applicants.

DeKalb’s first marijuana dispensary opens Friday – Shaw Local – Shaw Local News Network

DeKALB – Excelleaf, DeKalb County’s first ever recreational marijuana dispensary, is ready to take consumers to new levels.

The company, 305 E. Locust St., opens its doors to the public for the first time as part of a soft opening Friday.

“We’re excited about that,” said Nakia McAdoo, a founding partner for Canndid Spirit Too, LLC. Canndid Spirit Too, LLC is the company that operates Excelleaf, the city’s first marijuana dispensary. The business is majority women-led.

Excelleaf’s soft opening kicks off at 9 a.m. Friday. A grand opening is planned for Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. Once fully open, the dispensary’s hours of operation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The dispensary has been a long time in the making for the city, project leaders said. Originally, Excelleaf intended to open in time for DeKalb Corn Fest in August.

McAdoo said the delay was unavoidable in retrospect.

“I think that the goal of Corn Fest was aggressive,” McAdoo said. “Once we finally got all of the approvals to start, we tried our best to march forward and meet that deadline. After that, it’s really about the state regulation and compliance. That takes a

Worcester County cannabis dispensary distancing bill passes … – Ocean City Today

An emergency bill that sets minimum distances between cannabis dispensaries and schools, as well as other establishments, received unanimous approval from the Worcester County Commissioners on Tuesday.

The bill states that cannabis dispensaries must be at least 2,000 feet away from primary or secondary schools, childcare centers, registered family child care homes, playgrounds, recreation centers, libraries, public parks and other licensed dispensaries. The bill also prohibits establishments with on-site cannabis consumption.

In October, commissioners passed the emergency bill on to be scheduled for Tuesday’s public hearing, at which no members of the public got up to speak.

Now the emergency bill will become part of the county’s public health article.

The bill doesn’t affect existing dispensaries in Worcester County, such as Positive Energy and Hi Tide, though the distance between the two, and away from local schools, already exceeds the requirement.

“Any person, licensee, agent, group, firm or corporation who violates the provisions of this subtitle shall be guilty of a civil infraction,” according to a summary of the bill.

The state automatically opted the county into distance requirements, but the new county bill expands those distances, said Jennifer Keener, Worcester County’s director of development, review and permitting.

Falls resident urges zoning law amendment – Akron Leader Publications

CUYAHOGA FALLS —
During the Nov. 13 Cuyahoga Falls City Council meeting,
resident Laura Ghrist ad-dressed council regarding her concerns about marijuana dispensaries in the city — particularly one on the corner of State Road and Chestnut Boulevard.
FRX Real Estate Holding Co. of Ohio LLC purchased 1682 State Road in 2022 and since then, several residents have spoken up about their concerns with the facility.
Ghrist is urging council to draft legislation, zoning amendments and city ordinances to protect the community from the “reckless harms of marijuana and its retail industry.”
She recommended several actions for council to take relative to the passing of Issue 2, such as limiting the number of dispensaries in Cuyahoga Falls and considering measures that would prohibit marijuana retailers from filling vacancies in residential neighborhoods.
“Currently there are no limitations on the distance between marijuana dispensaries and residential areas,” Ghrist said, adding the required limit of dispensaries to be located at least 500 feet from schools is “frighteningly minimal” as school-age children reside in the communities surrounding the schools well beyond 500 feet.
“I urge you to look into these zoning laws further to see how best to amend them — I’m certain greater measures to protect school-age children

Arizona Dispensary Offering 22% Discount for Veterans Year-Round – AZmarijuana.com

The Mint dispensary is providing veterans with a year-round 22% discount. The Mint designated its veterans discount at 22% because 22 veterans lose their battle to post-traumatic stress disorder in the U.S. every day.

With nearly half a million Veterans living in Arizona, focusing on Veterans’ issues is critical to the Mint team, especially given the disproportionate rates of post-traumatic stress disorder, unemployment and homelessness among those who have served and sacrificed.

Additionally, it is estimated that 30 percent of first responders develop behavioral health conditions including, but not limited to, depression and [PTSD], as compared with 20% in the general population. Police officers in particular face a 54% greater risk of suicide than the general population. In 2022, 180 police officers took their own lives, nearly three times the number shot and killed in the line of duty.

“It is time that we recognize the psychological toll that Veterans and First Responders face,” said Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis. “Job-related stress, trauma, physical demands, and long hours have real psychological consequences. While the stresses are relentless, members of our military and first responders are supposed to be ‘tough.’ The perceived stigma surrounding mental health problems keeps many from
