New Dispensaries Open in Grand Junction and Denver Metro – Westword

It took a while, but dispensaries are now open in the largest city on the Western Slope.

Grand Junction voters approved allowing recreational cannabis sales nearly two-and-a-half years ago, but slow movement from the local government and licensing department prevented any of the town’s ten dispensary licensees from opening until this year.

Lucky Me Dispensary became the first pot shop to open in Grand Junction on October 18, with the Colorado Weedery following closely behind last week. The other eight dispensary licensees have fewer than five months to open their doors before forgoing store permits, according to local rules, but they can apply for extensions.

The Denver metro has seen a handful of new dispensaries open, as well. The Center, fresh off a move from its longtime space on Leetsdale Boulevard and into a historic firehouse on South Broadway, hosted a grand opening party over the weekend, while wholesale cultivator Shift Genuine Cannabis recently opened a store in Adams County.

New York Bill Would Outlaw Some Cannabis Billboard Advertisements

A bill in New York seeks to outlaw some roadside billboards for cannabis advertising and would impose fines of up to $2,500 for violations. According to the Justification linked to the proposal, Assemblyman Scott Gray (R) introduced the measure after seeing a billboard in his district that resembled the famous “Got Milk?” advertising campaign popular during the 1990s.

In the Justification, Gray writes that the Got Milk campaign was directed at teenagers and the “Got Weed?” billboard is aimed at that same demographic.

“The rollout Office of Cannabis Management has included many delays, turmoil and confusion. A concern of many New Yorkers is that advertisements of many cannabis products will be geared towards adolescents, including those who may not even be of legal age to possess cannabis or cannabis products.” — Gray in the Justification for A.8200

Office of Cannabis Management regulations finalized earlier this year include a ban on cannabis billboards, except those that conduct retail sales or delivery – and those signs can only include business information. Gray’s bill would “not prohibit the signage for retail operations, rather specific product advertising,” the Justification states.

The measure is currently in the Assembly

Florida Officials Uncover 8,700+ Hemp Products ‘Attractive to Children’ in Latest Crackdown

Inspectors with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services on Thursday announced they had uncovered more than 8,700 hemp extract-edible packages that were attractive to, or marketed to, children.

The products, which officials say run afoul of a law passed earlier this year, were discovered at Top Private Label Co. in Daytona Beach and officials issued a stop-sale order against the company.

The law, passed in July, added age requirements for the purchase of hemp products intended for human consumption, included a prohibition on marketing that targets children, mandates that products sold in Florida are packaged in a safe container, and requires ingestible hemp products are held to the same health and safety standards as other food products.

To enforce these law changes, in July and August, the Agriculture Department conducted what it describes as “the largest ever” inspection of businesses selling products that contain hemp extracts. The statewide inspection specifically targeted the sale of hemp extract products that are attractive and marketed to children and included inspections of more than 700 businesses in all 67 Florida counties. Ther sweeps uncovered more than 83,000 packages of hemp extract products, including THC products that officials

Pennsylvania House Subcommittee Hears from Citizens and Experts About Cannabis Legalization

The Pennsylvania House Subcommittee on Health Care on Wednesday heard from citizens and medical experts about legalizing cannabis for adult use, WGAL reports. State Rep. Dan Frankel (D) indicated that the issue could come up for a vote in front of the full House next year.

“We know that there are some states in this country that have done it poorly, and we want to learn those lessons as we craft something here.” — Frankel via WGAL

State Rep. Paul Schemel (R), the subcommittee’s minority chairman, said he believed that “every state has gotten it wrong.”

“To think that this bad milk, if we put it back in the refrigerator as good milk, would be making the same error those states have,” he said during the hearing.

Frankel noted that people in Pennsylvania are already consuming cannabis that is untested, unregulated, and untaxed, and that state lawmakers can implement safety controls and the state can earn revenue through cannabis sales.

State Rep. Chris Rabb (D), a member of the House Cannabis Caucus, said that lawmakers should not look at the reforms solely as a revenue generator, but also as a

Missoula pot dispensaries back Daines’ SAFER banking bill – Missoula Current

Martin Kidston

(Missoula Current) To purchase $20 in recreational marijuana at a Missoula dispensary, you better carry cash. The ATM at most local shops will charge an extra 15% and, as it stands, cash is the only option for those looking to buy.

But a bill introduced by Sens. Steve Daines, R-Montana and Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, would change that, allowing dispensaries to conduct modern commerce with actual banks – a move that would render cash nearly as obsolete as it is anywhere else.

“It would open up a lot of opportunities for the industry in general, but it would be more convenient for the employees as well,” said Angel, who manages Lionheart Cannabis in Missoula. “I think there’s room to grow, especially if we can charge using credit cards.”

Most states have legalized recreational marijuana including the entire American West outside Utah, Idaho and Wyoming. Montana voters made it legal in 2020 and the industry has grown in that short time to tens of millions of dollars.

But at the federal level, marijuana is still a Schedule I drug. Banks and credit unions being federally regulated are prohibited from doing business with dispensaries outside of a cash deposit.

Daines said the SAFER Banking Act would help

Neighboring Michigan offers insight into recreational marijuana industry as Ohioans mull legalization – WANE

COLDWATER, Mich. (WANE) — The interchange of Interstate 69 and U.S. 12 at the eastern edge of Coldwater, Michigan offers most of the businesses and amenities highway checkpoints near cities usually offer.

Weary drivers can grab a cup of joe at Biggby Coffee, and local residents can grab groceries at either an ALDI or a Walmart.

The interchange is also densely populated with marijuana dispensaries, representing an industry that has exploded in Michigan in the five years since its statewide legalization.

Marijuana dispensaries could soon become a common sight in neighboring Ohio as residents prepare to vote on a proposed statute that would make Ohio the latest state to legalize recreational marijuana.

Over the summer, the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol (CRMLA) obtained enough signatures to get the proposed statute, which would enact Chapter 3780 of the Ohio Revised Code, on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Dubbed Issue 2, the statute needs a simple majority vote to pass.

The statute, which can be found in its entirety on the Ohio Secretary of State’s website, has spawned arguments from those in favor of and against legalizing recreational marijuana.

VEGAS MYTHS BUSTED: You Can Buy Legal Weed On the Strip – Casino.Org News

Las Vegas is a town built on deception — primarily that your odds of winning a jackpot are good. But some of its deception is less expected and acceptable. For example, a half dozen stores on the Las Vegas Strip attempt to pass hemp off as cannabis.

The Las Vegas Strip is not where you will find legal weed, despite signs apparently telling you otherwise. (Image: runthetrap.com)

Though cannabis and hemp are the same plant, cannabis contains more than than .03% THC, the compound that gets users high. Hemp doesn’t. Mostly, it contains the non-psychoactive compound CBD.

A loophole in the 2018 Nevada Farm Bill allows anyone to peddle hemp, anywhere they want, without the state’s Cannabis Compliance Board, or any other regulatory body, setting rules for its quality and safety.

Located across Las Vegas Boulevard from CityCenter, this is one of a handful of fake weed dispensaries dotting the Strip. Its Yelp score is an unsurprising 1 out of 5 stars, the lowest rating

Nova Farms set to launch drive-thru at South Jersey dispensary – NJBIZ

Listen to this article

Nova Farms is set to offer customers an easier way to get cannabis.

Starting Nov. 6, the multistate operator will launch drive-thru pick-up service at its flagship location in Woodbury, making it among the first of a growing number of New Jersey dispensaries with the option.

For the first week, the offering will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and then expanded to regular dispensary hours (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.). According to Nova Farms, the service is exclusively for pre-orders; anyone without a confirmed order will not be permitted to enter the drive-thru.

After opening its first location in New Jersey last spring at 642 Mantua Pike – a property formerly occupied by Arby’s – the MSO marked the milestone with a grand opening celebration filled with games, exhibits, food trucks and a meet-and-greet with rapper and Newark native Redman.

In commenting on the start of its new window service, Nova Farms Chief Operating Officer Blair Fish said he believes it is “a testament to our commitment to convenience, speed, and customer satisfaction.”

“We are proud to be pioneers in Southern New Jersey, offering a safer and more efficient way for our

A Maryland returning citizen created a cannabis tech startup – Technical.ly

Growing up in a religious family, founder Colin Fraser wasn’t introduced to cannabis as a medical tool.

“I grew up in a Christian household where cannabis was considered the devil’s lettuce,” Fraser told Technical.ly. “Back then, you did it as a recreational party drug and I really didn’t know much about the healing purposes of that actual plant.”

It wasn’t until later in life, after Fraser spent some time incarcerated, that he was inspired to do something to help people in prison and returning citizens. And through his mother dealing with Stage 4 cancer, he learned how hard it can be for those who need cannabis treatments the most to access them. In 2021, his motivation turned into Upling, a Rockville, Maryland-based cannabis delivery app that just won the latest DC Startup Week pitch competition.

While his mom was getting treated for cancer, Fraser said, he realized the difficulty patients go through to find the time or energy to go to a dispensary. The same is true of the elderly and veterans who get a lot of anxiety standing in lines due to PTSD. Available for Android and iOS for residents of Maryland and DC, Upling is the first Black-owned
