Understanding Ohio’s new recreational marijuana laws: The legal ways to acquire cannabis – WKRC TV Cincinnati

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – While Ohioans wait for the legislature to figure out any changes to the state’s recreational marijuana program, the question in the meantime is what are people who want to enjoy recreational pot supposed to do?

Ohio has three legal ways to get marijuana. Medical, which has been around for years, and you need a doctor to say you need the cannabis. There’s also home grow and adult use.

Local 12 spoke with defense attorney Joe Suhre about staying legal under Ohio’s new law.

Suhre said home grow is only for personal use. You can’t sell it or even give it away.

“No neighborhood parties where you go down to your friend’s house, you know, who’s got six plants growing to be able to get some from him,” Surhre said.

The law defines adult use. The law says you must be 21 to use recreational cannabis.

“Adult use marijuana statutorily means marijuana that’s been purchased through a dispensary in Ohio. I would presume that there’s going to be testing and packaging that’s going to be involved in that, and that’s distinguished from just your regular marijuana,” Suhre said.

The key there is that it must be purchased through a dispensary in Ohio.
