FLORENCE, Ky. (WKRC) – Medical marijuana will officially be legal across Kentucky starting on January 1.
Communities all over the state are now debating how to regulate the program. One city in Northern Kentucky is leaving the decision up to the voters in November.
Each city across the state is responsible for putting laws in place that impact the zoning of marijuana dispensaries. Kenton, Boone, and Campbell counties are all moving forward with laws that would prohibit business countywide. At the same time, cities within those counties are making the same calls, with some deciding to put the decision in the hands of voters.
“There’s just a lot of questions. The regulations, rules, and guidelines seem to be changing every day when you go on the website,” said Elizabeth Kirby, owner of Your CBD Store in Florence.
Kirby is discussing every day whether or not she’s going to apply for a dispensary license.
“We have so many people coming into our store every day looking for relief. They’ve tried prescriptions and been to a lot of doctors,” said Kirby.
