73-year-old dead after stabbing near Central Avenue dispensary – KRQE News 13

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two men were hospitalized after being stabbed in a fight that occurred on Central Avenue on Saturday, Jan. 27. Now, police say that one of the stabbing victims, 73-year-old Fred Tapia, has died from his injuries.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department’s investigation, a confrontation broke out after a driver going west on Central swerved around three people walking in the middle of the road. Police report that the walking individuals (two men and one woman) approached the driver and his passenger (Tapia) between 98th Street and Unser Boulevard.

Police say the woman walked away, and a fight broke out between the two men who were walking and the two men in the car. A Good Samaritan witnessed the attack and came to the victims’ defense, fighting off the offenders. According to police, one of the offenders was armed with a knife. Both Tapia and the driver were stabbed multiple times in the chest and were taken to the hospital.
