California police officer killed while answering burglary call at marijuana dispensary, shooter on the loose – Fox Baltimore

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — An Oakland, California, police officer was shot and killed Friday while answering a report of a burglary at a marijuana dispensary, authorities said.

Tuan Le, 36, was one of several who responded to a report of a burglary in progress at the cannabis business near Jack London Square at about 4:30 a.m., about 3 1/2 hours after an earlier burglary was reported at the same business, authorities said.

The arriving uniformed and plainclothes officers saw several people leaving the business and one opened fire several times, hitting the officer, who was in plainclothes and driving an unmarked car, interim Police Chief Darren Allison said at a news conference.

Other officers took the wounded officer to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about four hours after the shooting.

“Officer Le was surrounded by his wife, mother, and members of his OPD family when he died,” a statement from the city said.

No officers returned fire, the chief said.

No arrests were immediately made, but Allison said investigators were following up on a lot of “actionable” evidence. He didn’t provide details.

“The dangers and demands of this profession are real, and come with significant sacrifice,” the chief said. “Sadly, today, one of our officers

Bluffton’s Old Town Dispensary to close in January – Replaced by Agave – Eat It & Like It – EatitandLikeit.com

Bluffton’s worst kept secret is now officially…official.

We get so caught up in talking about how much the face of Savannah is changing around here that we sometimes don’t stop to acknowledge that change and growth are pretty much happening everywhere. The latest example, in our area at any rate, is in Bluffton’s Old Town neighborhood, where a locals spot is about to close, replaced by another Bluffton restaurant looking for a bigger footprint.

Old Town Dispensary, a laid back watering hole in the heart of Old Town’s Calhoun Street will be closing at the end of January. Employees were notified a few weeks ago that OTD would be no more. Another Old Town establishment, Agave, will to be taking over the space at 15 Captains Cove in Bluffton.

Matt Jording, who owns the building and land where OTD sits, confirmed the story to us by phone. He, however, wanted to make sure we confirmed the fact that the building was not sold. Agave, yes the same Agave that currently is in the Bluffton Promenade, is going to lease the space from the Jordings.

“I am the landlord” he said. “But that’s it.”

“We were presented with what we thought

New Details on Killing of OPD Officer: He Was a Four-Year Veteran, Shooting Was Over Dispensary Robbed Twice … – SFist

We still don’t know the identity of the undercover Oakland police officer who was shot and killed this morning, but at a Friday press conference, we learned he was shot by suspects who robbed an Oakland cannabis dispensary for the second time in one night.

We reported this morning that an undercover Oakland police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty early Friday morning, while responding to reports of a burglary at a cannabis dispensary. The undercover officer was driving a vehicle when he was “ambushed” and fatally shot, and according to Oaklandside, a second undercover officer was also shot but survived.  At a Friday afternoon press conference, seen below, interim Oakland Police Chief Darren Allison gave more details on the shooting of the officers.

Allison did not identify the officer, but noted that he was a four-year veteran of the force, and was with another plainclothes officer. “The officer has been on with us for four years,” Allison said, adding that he was “one of our field team officers who works very closely in the field with some of our other specialized teams.”

And apparently, the dispensary in question had been burglarized twice within a five-hour period early Friday

Medical marijuana dispensary licenses blocked in Alabama amid dispute over selection process – WAAY

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A judge temporarily blocked Alabama from issuing licenses to medical marijuana dispensaries amid an ongoing legal battle over how the state selected the winning companies.

Montgomery Circuit Judge James Anderson issued a temporary restraining order late Thursday to stop the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission from issuing licenses to the four dispensaries. The licenses will be on hold while he hears a challenge to the selection process.

The court order is the latest development in an ongoing legal battle that has plagued the start of Alabama’s medical marijuana program. Alabama lawmakers voted to allow medical marijuana in the state in 2021. Commission officials are aiming to make the products available in 2024 after a series of delays.

The ruling affects only the dispensaries. Brittany Peters, a spokeswoman for the commission, said Friday that the commission has issued licenses to other companies that were selected to cultivate, transport, and test marijuana.

The commission next month is set to issue the coveted “integrated” licenses for multifunctional companies that grow, transport and sell medical marijuana. Anderson has not yet ruled on a request to block the issuance of the integrated licenses.
