Streamwood’s second — and, for now, last — recreational marijuana shop to open Friday – Daily Herald

Ivy Hall Dispensary will open Friday in Streamwood, where it will be the second of two recreational marijuana shops allowed to operate in the village.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony with village officials at 8:55 a.m. will be followed by giveaways for the first customers of the business at 630 S. Sutton Road.

The Black- and veteran-owned Ivy Hall is the first business to operate under the Illinois Social Equity Program, which provides assistance to people and communities that have been historically impacted by arrests and imprisonment for cannabis offenses. Ivy Hall operates eight other dispensaries, including in Glendale Heights, Crystal Lake, Waukegan, Montgomery and Bolingbrook.

At the 9 a.m. opening, there will be free coffee from Green Joe Coffee, free doughnuts from Country Style Donuts, and the first 150 customers will receive free small frozen Lou Malnati’s pizzas.

Customers from 4 to 7 p.m. will be treated to free burgers from Spoon Burger Food Truck.

The village’s first marijuana shop, Spark’d Dispensary, operates at 1594 Buttitta Drive. Village Manager Sharon Caddigan said the new business means Streamwood now has one dispensary on both the east and west sides of town.

Village regulations allow only two dispensaries on the community.

Chula Vista pot shop could change owners after one indicted – The San Diego Union-Tribune

The co-owner of a Chula Vista marijuana dispensary who was criminally indicted by federal prosecutors last year has agreed to sell his stake in the business, but city officials have yet to sign off on the proposed new partner.

Andres Camberos, one of the principal owners of the Grasshopper Dispensary along Trousdale Drive, was told to divest from the business after he was charged with federal crimes, or risk the loss of the city license.

According to a federal indictment unsealed in September, Camberos and his sister, Adriana Camberos, bought groceries and other consumer goods at a discount on the promise that they would be marketed in Mexico.

But the siblings instead sold the products in the United States, undercutting business rivals, the indictment alleges. As the subject of a federal indictment, Andres Camberos was in jeopardy of having his Chula Vista pot dispensary license revoked.

Late last year, Chula Vista officials informed licensee Vista Property Holdings that Camberos would have to sell his stake in the company in order for Grasshopper Dispensary to keep its license.

City officials said they recently received a change-of-ownership request from an attorney representing Vista Property Holdings.

“This request sought to remove Mr. Camberos as an owner and approve a

Dispensary Near School Approved by Planning Commission | Good Times – Good Times

A new cannabis dispensary is set to take over the site of the former Emily’s Bakery after the Santa Cruz Planning Commission approved the project on March 7. The vote was 5-2 in favor with commissioners Michael Polhamus and John McKelvey voting “no.”

Many Wo/Men’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana (WAMM) members came out to support Valerie Corral who spoke in favor of The Hook Outlet, the dispensary that will take-over supplying WAMM members. The Hook hopes to provide medical marijuana to 200 WAMM members at this location, according to co-founder of The Hook, Bryce Berryessa.

The Santa Cruz City School District  voiced its opposition to the dispensary with a case that boiled down to the site’s proximity to Santa Cruz High. Superintendent Kristin Munro, Santa Cruz High Principal Michelle Poirier and Mission Hill Principal Derek Kendall spoke out against the permit. They requested that the Commission move the zoning-requirement from 600 feet to 2000 feet away from schools.

The dispensary is only 850 feet away from Santa Cruz High. Zoning code currently requires a buffer of 600 feet.

Poirier said that marijuana had become a huge issue at the school. Drug violations were up 50% in 2022-23 and students told

Banking for Cannabis Growers

Table of Contents

If you own a cannabis business, a major consideration is where to keep your money. Though many business owners may find banking to be a headache regardless of industry, few business owners have more hurdles to deal with than cannabis growers and dispensaries. The current state of cannabis banking can have a significant impact on where cannabis business owners keep their money and whether they obtain cannabis loans.

With the curious legal status of cannabis at the federal and state level, cannabis banking can be complex. This is where a trusted cannabis lawyer at Harris Sliwoski can help.

Current State of Cannabis Banking

Currently, many states have legalized cannabis for medical use and some have legalized it for recreational use, but cannabis remains illegal at the federal level. Since the legality of cannabis varies at the state and federal levels, this has led to a lot of uncertainty in cannabis banking. While the industry is thriving because cannabis can be sold legally in various states, some financial institutions — including big banks — are hesitant to approve cannabis-related business accounts due to the federally illegal status of cannabis.

Financial institutions are concerned about facing repercussions

Residents sue to stop weed dispensaries from opening in their town – NJ.com

Some residents of a New Jersey borough say they don’t want their neighborhoods to become destinations for pot smokers, so they’ve filed a lawsuit attempting to stop the sale of legal weed in town — the group’s second such attempt to do so.

In a lawsuit filed in the Middlesex County Superior Court last month, seven local citizens and a cannabis victims group are challenging Highland Park’s ordinances and resolutions that permit licensed cannabis businesses to operate within the town’s borders.

The group argues the borough council’s legal weed laws violate federal marijuana law — which, unlike New Jersey, prohibits the possession, use and distribution of cannabis.

Quick Guide to Cannabis Business Opportunities

Table of Contents

Although cannabis remains illegal at the federal level, many states and municipalities have loosened their regulations. As of early 2023, 37 states have approved medical cannabis use by qualified individuals, and 21 states have approved it for recreational use.

As a result, the cannabis industry is growing at breakneck speed, especially when it comes to refined cannabis products. The edible market alone is projected to grow by $25.27 billion from 2020 to 2025 at a CAGR of 21.74%.

While this kind of growth is promising, entrepreneurs looking to take advantage of these cannabis industry opportunities must be aware of their legal responsibilities before getting started.

Business Opportunities in the Cannabis Industry

There are two main categories of cannabis businesses — plant-touching and ancillary. The legal requirements for each type are different, so it’s essential to research the laws around the company you want to start.

Plant-Touching Businesses

As the name implies, plant-touching cannabis businesses deal directly with the cannabis plant from seed to dispensary shelf. All plant-touching businesses must apply for a license to operate legally, and the licensing requirements can vary by region.

Some examples of plant-touching businesses include:
