North Carolina medical marijuana sales begin at Cherokee store – ABC News

CHEROKEE, N.C. — Medical marijuana can now be legally purchased in North Carolina with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians opening its long-planned dispensary this weekend on tribal land.

Hundreds of people, many with approved medical patient cards to purchase items, celebrated the historic opening of the Great Smoky Cannabis Co. on Saturday within the Eastern Band land known as the Qualla Boundary, the Asheville Citizen-Times reported. Saturday was April 20, which is also known as “420 Day,” or an annual day for the celebration of marijuana.

The ceremony marks the latest liberalization of marijuana rules by the tribe, which in 2021 decriminalized possession of small amounts of marijuana within its 89 square miles (231 square kilometers) of land in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The tribe also formed a medical marijuana system that included a tribe-created business to grow cannabis and sell it, reaping financial rewards for the tribal members and assisting those with medical conditions.

“This project will change the trajectory of their lives forever,” Forrest Parker, general manager for Qualla Enterprises, the tribal company that manages the dispensary, said during the opening ceremony. “It will be a conduit to generations of social, economic and spiritual growth, unlike anything that’s ever been

Local dispensaries showcase products, educate people about medical cannabis during Mississippi Cannabis Festival – WLOX

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Biloxi Town Green was flooded with local dispensaries, food trucks, and live entertainment for the Mississippi Cannabis Festival.

Local dispensaries came out to showcase their products as well as educate people on the benefits of medical marijuana.

One local dispensary says it’s important to educate people on medical cannabis to help provide another avenue of treatment.

“I believe that without this there will be a lot of things happening that shouldn’t happen and it gives people a better outlet to be healthy, especially if they’re old and skeptical of doing other things,” one woman said.

If you would like to attempt to receive a medical marijuana card, you can visit the state’s health department website.

Boston cannabis dispensary opens its doors on 4/20, adds to growing industry – Boston 25 News

BOSTON — On the unofficial holiday of 4/20, another dispensary opened its doors to new customers – part of the booming statewide cannabis industry.

Rebelle on Albany Street in Boston is the first dispensary to open in the South End neighborhood. The company produces its own marijuana products while also selling other brands as well.

Guillermo Erazo, assistant general manager of the store, told Boston 25 that their natural products focus on general wellness.

“We produce our own product,” said Erazo. “We cultivate our own flower. We cultivate our own edibles and concentrates as well too.”

Rebelle is now one of more than a dozen dispensaries across Boston that sell recreational marijuana.

Recreational marijuana was legalized in Massachusetts in 2016. The cannabis control commission reported roughly $1.5 billion in sales in 2023 as the industry grows statewide.

Erazo added, “We have a lot of consumers who came down that are more happy that it’s recreational, that we open up doors for consumers to get it the correct way.”

The growing industry is also opening new doors for local businesses.

Sam Burgess of Bootstrap Compost in Everett held a pop-up at the South End dispensary, saying his company can create a more sustainable marijuana industry.

“We can actually compost green

Unionized cannabis workers picket Phoenix dispensary on 4/20 after contract negotiations stall – The Arizona Republic

Amid 90-degree heat on Saturday and coinciding with 4/20, about two dozen unionized cannabis workers and supporters conducted a two-hour picket outside a Phoenix marijuana dispensary at the heart of stalled bargaining negotiations.

Nicholas Fredrickson stood alongside fellow Curaleaf employees participating in the rally organized by the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union Local 99 at a company store on East Camelback Road near North Seventh Street. Workers rallied in support of safer working conditions, full-time employment and a living wage, as stated by organizers.

Fredrickson, who was starting a shift at another Curaleaf location soon after, said the pay for cannabis employees is not matching the cost of living as it did when he joined the industry about five years ago.”We were able to comfortably take care of our families,” Fredrickson said of the time before recreational marijuana was legalized in 2020.

Upstate New Yorker battles health, opens Cannabicity dispensary – Spectrum News

It has now been over a year since cannabis was legalized in New York state, and Saturday is 4/20, an unofficial holiday that celebrates it. With more than 100 dispensaries in the state, there is now a conversation about safe and responsible use of cannabis. A new CBD dispensary hopes to further this discussion.

“I’ve always been a very strong person, and that’s also what helps me,” said Barbara Vaughn, the founder and chairwoman of Cannabicity. “I’m very of a very strong mind and a certain amount of pain I could just put out of my mind.”

Fourteen years ago, Vaughn was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease.

“It’s called transverse myelitis,” Vaughn said. “It is numbness in the body. It started with my feet and within a few days went all the way up to my midriff.”

Initially, Vaughn was prescribed strong pharmaceutical medications, but she didn’t want to become dependent upon them. She says she was worried about various side effects of the drugs.

“I was really looking for an alternative to taking more like nerve medication for pain,” Vaughn said. “And that’s what led me to want to explore like the CBD. And I do find that it
