Milan proposes 3% marijuana sales tax, planning ahead for potential future dispensary – ktvo.com

MILAN, Mo. — The City of Milan is proposing a 3% sales tax on adult use of marijuana purchases within city limits.

This ballot measure is set to appear in front of voters during the April 2 Missouri Municipal Election.

Milan City Administrator Crystal Bupp told KTVO News that there are no current plans to bring a dispensary to the city, but Milan city officials would like the opportunity to plan ahead for when that day comes.

“This is just us being proactive, should that happen in the future,” Bupp added. “We’re in a position that we can capitalize from day one on any sales tax from that.”

If Milan gets a dispensary, the city administrator says it will be required to open up shop in the commercial district.

Bupp also told KTVO that if this proposal passes, the revenue will be used for public safety.

The money is set to go to the Milan Police Department.
