Snow Hill Discusses Guidelines for Cannabis Dispensaries | Latest News | wboc.com – WBOC TV 16

SNOW HILL, Md.- Snow Hill hosted a discussion about cannabis dispensaries Tuesday night. The town’s moratorium on cannabis ends June 2024, so the town will have to make some decisions by the summer.

According to state law, towns cannot ban dispensaries, but it can set guidelines, for example, how far a dispensary must be from a school.

Snow Hill’s mayor Mike Pruitt says he was pleased with Tuesday night’s turn out and the questions from the public.

“It was well represented across town, the council was excited and our panel was excellent,” said Pruitt. “This whole cannabis idea has been coming and tonight’s purpose was to gain some information from some knowledgeable people and to hear from some of the residents and worries or concerns they may or may not have.”

The town invited a panel of experts to field questions from the public and council members. Panel guests included a member of the Maryland Cannabis Administration, The Worcester County Department of Health and the Worcester County Department of Social Services. Pruitt says their expertise was helpful to the town.

“If someone wants to come and open up a business to sell to grow to distribute, we need to make sure our zoning is

Three Out of Four Americans Live in State with Adult-Use or Medical Cannabis, Pew Research Center Finds – High Times

The majority of Americans now live in a state that has legalized adult-use or medical cannabis, a new Pew Research Center analysis indicates. In addition, nearly 80% of U.S. residents also have at least one cannabis dispensary in their county.

“According to our analysis, 74% of Americans live in a state where marijuana is legal for either recreational or medical use,” Caleb Keller, a communications assistant with Pew Research Center told High Times.

“Our analysis finds that around three-quarters of all dispensaries in the country are in states that have legalized the recreational use of marijuana,” the Pew Research Center reports. “Another 23% are in medical marijuana-only states. In fact, two of the top five states with the largest number of dispensaries—Oklahoma and Florida—allow the drug for medical use only.”

In addition, nearly 80% of Americans live in a county with at least one cannabis dispensary. Even for people that live in states and areas that don’t allow cannabis, dispensaries near state borders are also thriving, often next to states with less permissive cannabis laws.

Marijuana is illegal under federal law, but most Americans now live in a jurisdiction where the drug is legal at the state level. And

Maryland Dispensary Fined $26,000 for Selling Cannabis From a Dumpster – High Times

Maryland-based dispensary, Far & Dotter, and Curio Wellness was recently hit with a fine of $26,000 for selling cannabis that was removed from a dumpster.

According to a Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA) consent order shared by The Baltimore Banner, a total of 64 units of cannabis (224 grams) product were thrown into the garbage outside of Curio Wellness’ Far & Dotter dispensary, located in Timonium, Maryland in July 2023. The order states that the store received a delivery of Amnesia OG flower in sealed jars, but does not specify the reason as to why it was thrown away.

The products sat in the garbage for approximately 41 hours and nine minutes. Video footage shows three employees “leaning over the dumpster” to pull out the products. Further video footage shows one employee repackaging the products, and later told the MCA that they did so “because the original packaging was covered in a liquid substance.”

A statement from Curio Wellness claims that no liquid or other substances reached the pre-packaged cannabis products. “The aforementioned product was inside sealed jars, within sealed boxes, and it is undisputed that no outside material ever breached the jars or touched the product,” Curio stated.

Madison Township trustees prohibit all marijuana businesses – Mansfield News Journal

There will be no marijuana dispensaries in Madison Township. The township trustees voted unanimously at their regular meeting on Monday to pass a resolution that prohibits “adult use cannabis operators and medical marijuana cultivators, processors and retail dispensaries in the unincorporated area of Madison Township.”

According to the resolution, the action was allowed under Ohio Revised Code section 3780.25, which involves adult use cannabis operators and was effective Dec. 7, 2023, and section 3796.29 involving medical marijuana, which was effective Sept. 8, 2016. Section 3780 and was part of State Issue 2 that Ohio voters approved last November.

Trustees began reviewing a township resolution involving marijuana after officials of Backroad Wellness of Cambridge, Ohio, told the board at its Feb. 5 meeting that the medical marijuana company was looking at Madison Township as a possible location for a new retail facility. Company officials said the firm was allowed to open three more locations under recent legislation governing recreational marijuana and was looking at an undisclosed site where an existing building would be torn down and a new 4,000-square-foot facility would be constructed.

NC’s first marijuana dispensary set to open soon. What to know – Citizen Times

ASHEVILLE – While remaining in federal limbo and not legalized on the state-level, marijuana is still coming to North Carolina — just in a different way.

After the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians approved the adult use of recreational marijuana in September 2023, the first legal cannabis dispensary in North Carolina is set to open on ECBI land within the next two months.

The opening date will be on 4/20, according to Qualla Enterprises Human Resources Director Lee Griffin.

“That’s the national cannabis holiday,” Griffin said during a Feb. 28 Tribal Council work session on the adult use ordinance that would allow the recreational purchase of marijuana.

“It’s the biggest revenue date annually. It’s like New Year’s Eve at the casino.”

After 17 Years, Feds Stop Trying To Imprison a Licensed Medical Marijuana Provider – Reason

Seventeen years ago, the federal government raided Charlie Lynch’s medical marijuana dispensary in Morro Bay, California, and charged him with five drug felonies. Lynch, whose business complied with state and local regulations, has been fighting to stay out of prison ever since, and last month he finally won that battle.

The Department of Justice (DOJ), which had been insisting since the first iPhone was released that Lynch should be incarcerated for at least five years, suddenly agreed to a deal that will spare him that punishment and erase his criminal record. The case, which proceeded on autopilot even as marijuana prohibition collapsed in one state after another, is a vivid reminder that the unjust, massively unpopular policy persists at the federal level thanks to presidential and congressional inertia.

Lynch, a software developer who lived in San Luis Obispo County, started mulling a new line of work after he obtained a doctor’s recommendation for marijuana to treat his cluster headaches and found there were no nearby dispensaries that could supply his medicine. He conferred with a lawyer, local officials, and even the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) before opening Central Coast Compassionate Caregivers in downtown Morro Bay in April 2006.

Green Party overturns ban on Vancouver mushroom dispensary – Vancouver Is Awesome

A Vancouver mushroom dispensary that was raided by police in November 2023 and has continued to flout a city order to close its doors won a significant victory Tuesday at city hall in a controversial decision reached by council’s business licence review panel.

In a 2-1 vote led by Green Party councillors, the panel overturned a ruling of the city’s chief licence inspector Sarah Hicks to suspend the business licence of the Medicinal Mushroom Dispensary at 247 West Broadway.

“I’m very happy about this decision,” said Valentin Muller, director of 1394867 BC Ltd., which operates the dispensary. “I think it’s a good first step. And I hope that we can work together with the city going forward and find common ground and come up with a proper licensing system for businesses like ours.”

The panel’s decision also went against the recommendation of city lawyer Robert LeBlanc, who warned that the purpose of the hearing was “not to advance advocacy with respect to any safe supply, or sale of psychedelic drugs.”

What happened is Green Party Coun. Adriane Carr, with support from colleague Pete Fry, successfully introduced a motion that has potentially opened the door for more illegal mushroom dispensaries to

Council sub-committee reinstates mushroom dispensary license – CityNews Vancouver

A Vancouver City Council sub-committee has voted to reinstate the business license of a magic mushroom shop — drawing the ire of Vancouver’s mayor.

The business license hearing on Tuesday featured three city councillors — two Green Party and one ABC — who were drawn at random to vote on the reinstatement of The Medicinal Mushroom Dispensary’s license.

The dispensary on West Broadway was the target of a search warrant on Nov. 1, during which Vancouver police say they were raiding storefronts that sold illegal psychedelic drugs.

Councillor Pete Fry, who voted in favour of the motion alongside fellow Green councillor Adrienne Carr, says the decision was made because there wasn’t a clear history of multiple violations to back up the “gross misconduct” the dispensary was accused of.

He adds their decision was made based on the recommendations put forth by the city’s chief license inspector.

According to the business’ license application, it initially applied to sell “party supplies” and the city changed that to specify that the store sold “novelties.”

“We’ve suggested the licensee come back with requesting a license under something that’s a little more specific,” Fry said.

However, Mayor Ken Sim sent out a statement Tuesday afternoon
