With the Town of Wheatfield allowing retail cannabis businesses earlier this year there are two potential dispensaries going through the town’s approval process.
They will not be far from each other, at 3048 and 3176 Niagara Falls Blvd., according to town documents. They will have separate ownership, Michael Schleicher of Wheatfield and Wesley Streeter of Niagara Falls respectively.
The Wheatfield Building Department said these two applicants are the furthest along in the approval process.
Outside Niagara Falls, the only cannabis dispensaries in Niagara County are on Walmore Road on the Tuscarora Reservation.
In November, the town planning board did a site plan review for the proposed 3176 site, previously home to A Little Something Home Decor & Gifts. They did not take any action as they and the town zoning board provided recommendations and requested a site plan.
Streeter’s business, WesCareTransportation LLC, was approved for an adult-use retail dispensary license from the state Office of Cannabis Management this past July. He could not be reached for comment for this story.
Town Supervisor Don MacSwan said that while the town board can have input on the manner, the special use permits for these only need planning board approval.
Schleicher’s dispensary is under the name Leaf
