Marijuana enthusiasts all over the country celebrated 4/20 Day on Saturday, April 20, and where there’s a celebration, a hangover sometimes follows.

That was the thinking of the those who operate the OKAY Cannabis Dispensary on Chicago Avenue in Evanston. The dispensary operates in the same space as the West Town Bakery, which does not sell cannabis products. Joe Kinsella is the general manager of the Evanston operation of OKAY and the West Town Bakery (there are several locations in Cook County). He said that 4/20 is a big occasion for celebration in the pot-smoking community and figured that many partiers would be feeling under the weather the next day.

“One way to cure yourself of a hangover,” he said, “is to get high.”

He came up with the idea of a low-key, day-after Sunday brunch. The affair was held at the Palmhouse event space next to the Peckish Pig gastropub on Sunday. Attendees paid $30 a head to partake of brunch fare provided by the Pig, and to receive a swag bag with some products from the dispensary. Most people just chatted

Red Wing eyes possible city cannabis dispensary | Local News | republicaneagle.com – Republican Eagle

The Red Wing City Council is looking to the recreational cannabis industry to potentially diversify city revenue.

Council President Kim Beise is putting together an ad hoc committee to study the topic after most councilors were supportive of researching the city’s options on April 22.

The ad hoc committee is slated to research a cannabis dispensary, the financial impact it could have for the city and discuss whether operating a dispensary is in the city’s best interests, said Marshall Hallock, the city’s administrative business director.

With the state’s licensing structure coming together and more cannabis legislation coming, Red Wing is at a point where “significant decisions” are needed on city policies regulating cannabis, Hallock told the city council.

“The city council needs to decide how the city should approach this issue,” Hallock said.

In addition to potentially adding to city revenues to decrease its reliance on property taxes, a municipal cannabis dispensary may enhance community safety by creating a strict regulatory process in Red Wing, according to Hallock.

Several city councilors met with the Prairie Island Indian Community’s Cannabis Regulation Commission earlier in April to discuss opportunities to collaborate. PIIC is working on its own cannabis dispensary, Island Peži, which is slated to open this summer.

Alton Dispensary Map Amendment Fails – RiverBender.com

ALTON – Alton’s two dispensary zones will remain the same after a resolution to amend them failed to receive a second on Monday night. The amendment’s failure casts uncertainty on the next location of the Alton Dispensary, which planned to open in a building unauthorized under the city’s current dispensary zone map.

The City of Alton is divided into two dispensary zones – Zone 1 to the north and Zone 2 to the south – with an ordinance in place to limit the number of dispensaries in the city to one per zone. The amended map would have altered Zone 1 to encompass a section in the southeastern portion of the city to encompass a building at 3401 E. Broadway, where the Alton Dispensary planned to reopen.

Terrace Dispensary representative Dan Lytle, who previously accused city officials of “gerrymandering” the map to benefit The Alton Dispensary, appeared on Monday to ask Committee of the Whole members not to take action on the item.

“Ultimately, we want to be a part of Alton,” Lytle said. “We don’t want this to be adversarial – what’s good for Alton is however many dispensaries you want to have in Alton, that they are

One Yr After License Was Granted, New UES Cannabis Shop Can Finally Open Its Doors – ourtownny.com

When Joseph Abramov was 19, he saw a business opportunity in the up-and-coming weed delivery scene, albeit one that was still illegal. “Everyone was involved. Everything was under the table,” he told Our Town. He began running his own delivery service in Queens, and built a business that he described as “dominating” the market. But throughout its operations, he’d run into trouble with the law “a bunch of times” and watch his associates go to prison. After two years, he decided to close up shop and pivot to something more legitimate, more stable. For the 13 years since, he’s been a real estate investor and developer, though his passion for marijuana never went away.

Urban Leaf, a new cannabis dispensary on 977 2nd Ave. in Midtown East, near 52nd St. is Abramov’s reentry into the market, this time with the state’s blessing. As a licensee under the state Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) program, which granted first dibs on dispensary licenses to those convicted of marijuana-related offenses and their immediate family members, he’s among the first wave of legal weed entrepreneurs in New York City. But the program’s rollout has been less than ideal, hampered by lawsuits, a flood of

How to tell if a New York weed dispensary is legal and licensed – Time Out

When shopping for weed, there are certain red—and green—flags to look out for.

Ever since the consumption and sale of cannabis were legalized in New York, our streets have been peppered with new smoke shops hawking pre-rolls, flower and gummies. It seems like there’s a new smoke shop on every corner these days, and while it’s a sign of a new era in New York City, this influx has also caused some problems for the state’s dispensary rollout plan.

“Unlicensed dispensaries have littered New York neighborhoods, blatantly circumventing our laws and selling potentially dangerous products,” Governor Kathy Hochul said last week. “Enough is enough. I promised to protect our communities and hard-working, legal cannabis licensees by expediting the closure of illicit storefronts. I’m proud to stand up and say we got it done.”

Hochul announced a new plan to shut down “illicit” cannabis shops and to protect the legal or licensed marketplace in the state’s FY25 Enacted Budget, including giving authority to the Office of Cannabis Management and local municipalities to take action against illegal/unlicensed stores and “those who enable them.” The governor’s office says these new plans are “the strongest set of policies enacted thus far to tackle the illicit cannabis marketplace.”

Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Opens North Carolina’s First And Only Medical Marijuana Dispensary On 4/ – Benzinga

Loading…Loading…

The opening of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ dispensary marks the first time marijuana can legally be purchased in North Carolina. The grand opening of the Great Smoky Cannabis Company was held on 4/20.

This opening follows the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) Tribal Council’s 2021 decision to legalize medical cannabis within the Qualla Boundary. The ECBI is a sovereign self-governed nation and a federally recognized tribe, hence the community has the right to open a medical marijuana dispensary in the otherwise fully prohibitionist state of North Carolina.

Among those patients was Chris Suttle, whose survival from a terminal diagnosis through cannabis serves as a testament to the profound impact of this opening. “I decided that first appointment when they told me the tumor had shrunk, that if cannabis saved my life, that I would dedicate my life to it,” Suttle said according to Spectrum News 1, highlighting the personal and social significance of this day.

Facing Federal Challenges

However, this progress occurs against a backdrop of federal resistance. U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards (R) introduced the “Stop Pot Act” in September last year, threatening to cut federal funding to entities legalizing cannabis, directly targeting tribal initiatives like the EBCI’s. Despite these

Hii NYC, Williamsburg’s First Licensed Weed Dispensary, Opens on Bedford Avenue – greenpointers.com

In the wake of recreational marijuana’s legalization in New York, tacky (and unlicensed) weed stores have proliferated, scooping up what feels like every vacant storefront with a speed that puts Spirit Halloween to shame (RIP Mr. Berry, already replaced by one of these unsightly shops).

Now, Williamsburg locals can breathe a sigh of relief as an actually licensed storefront just opened up on 152 Bedford Avenue.

Meet Hii NYC, which opened last Friday. The store joins only a handful of licensed stores in Kings County, as a legal battle has stalled the rollout of licensed stores in Brooklyn.

“The dispensary and its website is stocked with marijuana flower, pre-rolls, edibles and concentrates from several NY-based cannabis companies who have also teamed up with Hii NYC for product education,” Brooklyn Paper reports. “Reps for the vendors keep the dispensary’s bud-tenders highly-trained so they can pass that knowledge on to consumers — whether they’re experienced or green users.”

Previously, the closest legal dispensaries to Greenpoint and Williamsburg were located in Bushwick. The Bedford Avenue storefront used to be a Verizon store, though it sat vacant for the past couple of years.
